Greenwood park and Welsh mountain zoo is on our visit list but have you been recently? What did your kids love? (9 year old)

Can you recommend anywhere else?
Thanks very much 😊

Fun Ship story from a Face Book Page,
www.facebook.com/groups/dukeoflancaster.a.s

I went in the 80's it was a top day out with loads to see and do on board.
You can park near by at a Market and walk up to it.
A Market trader with a great business mind saw a way to work around an out dated trading law. Simply put by operating on a ship there were no restrictions on Sunday trading.
The Lancaster was brought by a Liverpool based company”Empirewise Ltd”, who intended her to be used as a static leisure centre and market.
She was towed in one of the worst storms ever to her new home at Llanerch-y-Mor, near Mostyn, on 10 August 1979. The ship was brought into a permanent dock and the hull was stabilised — not in concrete, as is commonly thought, but surrounded by a large tonnage of sand pulled out of the Dee estuary.
Known as "The Fun Ship”, the market, restaurants, bars and internal arcades were to an extent a success. As the ship had not been molested, it was also possible to visit her bridge and engine room.
The plans to convert the guest sections of the ship into a 300 room hotel never seemed to get past the planning stages. This along with a constant changing of the regulations and prohibition notices being issued by the local council caused constant battles.
The ship has now been on the banks of the river Dee for over 30 years. The owners have made several attempts in the late 80’s and early 90’s to re-open it as the “fun Ship”. Later using the ship as a static storage facility for their other business.
So what’s happening now?
Well with the owners having constantly battled the local authorities over changes to some of the agreements. This unfortunately ended in a high court battle. The ship has been left as a poignant reminder to the local authorities that corruption and dirty tricks don’t always work.
She has become one of the biggest land marks in the area. With the ship looking like it is sitting in a field as you drive past it causes a great interest. Most tourists looking out for it on their way to the local sea front towns.

I dont know where you are travelling from but a totally different route with the same final destination, Fairy Glen is a great walk the water falls are good if the weather has been bad, but the section along the river is very tranquil.

Portmeirion for a day visit.

Copper mines are great - we did a trip there followed by Conwy castle. There's a fantastic replica sword shop in Conwy that my son was fascinated by - they sell some kid suitable cheaper stuff too. Also a very good pizza place there - think there's a branch in Llandudno too.

Great walks up Conwy "mountain" too as well as on the Great Orne. Have fun!

lilachouse · 06/08/2022 10:57

Johnny Dough’s pizzeria is great in Llandudno and Conwy and the Parisellas ice cream place in Conwy is divine. We liked walking over the Great Orme, taking the tram and cable car, and doing the Toboggan run is really good fun but get there v early as parking and queues can be a pain. Walking around the city walls in Conwy entertained for a while and eating fresh seafood at the place by the RNLI on the quay (also home to the world’s smallest house). Don’t miss to go crabbing off the pier in Llandudno as you get a great haul!

Just returned. Followed advice to get to Greenwood parc quite early and therefore avoid the queues for the main rides, landrover cars, and this was true - it got noticeably busier by lunchtime. I'd also say take maybe lunch/snacks with you as the food selling kiosks are mostly sweet things, ice creams etc.

Liked Abergele generally: I didn't know it before.
