Heathrow T5 Today 4th Aug

We flew from Heathrow T5 today to Geneva. As there has been so much in the press about airports I thought it might be helpful to share our experience!

We went to the airport yesterday and did the twilight bag drop. The airport was very quiet with many bag drop stations available. No waiting at all. This was around 6.30pm.

Our flight was at 8.20 and when we arrived this morning the airport was again pretty quiet at 5.30am. Short queue for people doing bag drop and short queues at security.

Flight was on time (BA) and luggage arrived at our destination!

I know this was an early flight so it may build up to be busier through the day but thought this might help or reassure anyone interested!

We flew from Gatwick to Italy last week. Very busy but it was fine.

Don't bother with paying for the security fast pass, everyone had had the same idea so the fast pass queue was longer than the regular queue. We'd paid for the express queue but ended up leaving it and joining the normal one.

The food outlets had insane queues at Gatwick though, we queued at Starbucks for about 35 mins. Take your own sandwiches from home.

May I advise others, not to turn up 3 hours + to an airport if you’re only travelling on hand luggage (especially if you’ve checked in the bulk of stuff, liquids etc the night before). The queues at Starbucks and masses of passengers not having a seat airside that people are mentioning, are due to people turning up way too early.

DS2 travelled to Italy yesterday afternoon from Gatwick. Said the airport was fine, got through security with no problems and their EasyJet flight even took off on time!
