Salou as a solo.

So I have a few weeks annual leave that I have to take. Unfortunately for me I'm single and I have literally no one to ask to go with me on holidays. ( I tried)
So I'm thinking late September towards early October of this year to go to salou. I have never been there before and it's an area that I would like to explore. ( Around 9 days)
As a single female solo traveler. Safety would be my highest concern. I also be looking towards half board and for medical reasons I would not be drinking ( maybe the odd one) but then I'm alone and would rather not.

I have looked at Vila romayo. And H10 delfin. Which is more expensive. Perhaps las Vegas again also expensive. I spend hours on trip advisor and it the place needs to be good for food. If anyone had any experience with them .

I want to book my holiday but the doubt gets in the way. If I don't book something I be spending my holidays in PJ's ❤️ at home.
I'm afraid of being totally alone for 9 days. Especially at meal times. Any suggestions would be welcomed. If I do go what can in Spanish pharmacy that you can't get in UK or Ireland.
Thanks in advance. I if I go I plan on doing the Barcelona day trip. Or other day trip to something else. A day traveling and back. And then it's pool or beach. No mad excursions on the beach is para sailing

Try la pineda it's rounds the resort a little bits much quieter but it has great bus service and definitely felt safe we either got the bus into salou or walked. I loved it but I think salou itself is a bit livelier.

Mrsjayy · 03/08/2022 15:14

God my Typos sorry, we stayed at the Golden Donaire half board.

Hunnypieprank · 03/08/2022 15:14

Thanks. I might have a wander. I was thinking of the golden don.

I went to Salou with my partner and teenage girls in June, haven’t been there before and I’m afraid I wouldn’t go back.

A British man was beaten and thrown off a cliff the week we were there by locals, there’s quite a big drinking culture there, every bar has someone outside trying to get you in for cocktails, shots etc

I’m on a Facebook page for Salou and I know lots of people love it, but I didn’t and all 9 of us that travelled together agreed we’d never go again, so I suppose it depends what you look for in a holiday.

Mrsjayy · 03/08/2022 15:29

That sounds hellish , where we were was really peaceful and we had a lovely holiday but as I said wasn't in the main resort and we didn't go out at night.

GrandSlamFinalee · 03/08/2022 16:00

Salou itself is safe but then I don’t know much about resorts as I’ve never been attracted to them.

9 days is quite a long time if you’re alone and won’t be doing much except for pool / beach - or is that what you’re after?

I’d personally do 5 days or so, book independently, somewhere not very touristy where you can still do a variety of chill stuff but explore the local area as well. A city such as Barcelona itself, or quieter ones like Mahón or even Tarragona (close to Salou). You can’t really get bored in those.

Whataretheodds · 03/08/2022 16:08

What kind of holiday are you looing for?

christmas2022 · 04/08/2022 07:24

What about the algarve? Or Croatia?

Itreallyistimetogo · 04/08/2022 07:28

I have to say I didn't like it either and would not go back. Blackpool in the sun. Barcelona is wonderful though.

fizzyfood · 04/08/2022 07:54

Went to Salou, was fine, had a day trip to Tarragona, much nicer, the H10 there looks lovely. There's a lovely beach, plenty of shops and an 'old town' definitely would go there over Salou.

midsomermurderess · 04/08/2022 16:41

I’m not terribly sure how useful it is to the the OP who is clearly anxious about travelling alone that a British man was beaten and thrown off a cliff by locals. What are the chances of that happening to her? What about a small Greek island. The weather would still be decent then. Maybe one of the islands close to Athens, eg Aegina. You could do a trip or two to Athens or Epidaurus. Chilled, not lairy. About a 4 hour flight.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 06/08/2022 07:19

Just out of interest why Salou?
Have only been once with kids in tow and wouldn’t go again to be honest.
Have you looked at Sitges if Barcelona is on your radar?

As a single woman I would go to Portugal for a beach type holiday.
Cascais with Lisbon on the doorstep to ring the changes, or Tavira and Alvor on The Algarve.

LondonWolf · 06/08/2022 07:30

I've been. I've never wanted to go back.

In your shoes I would go in Malaga. Costal city with tons to do and see plus lovely beaches both at Malaga itself and up the coast within half an hour by the train which runs along the coast.

Footbal · 06/08/2022 07:46

I've never been to Salou. In my experience though anybody that has holidayed there go because its cheap and they have children.

I would book somewhere else. How about Italy? Lake Como is beautiful and they always have lots of tours.

balalake · 06/08/2022 08:35

Why not Barcelona or as suggested Malaga?

Sarahcoggles · 06/08/2022 08:44

What sort of holiday do you want to do OP?
Personally if I was on my own I wouldn't choose a holiday that involved lots of sitting around on the beach, because I'd get bored and lonely. I'd do something that involved activity, or day trips to interesting places. So I'd avoid a seaside resort. And I'd probably just do a week at most. 9 days is a long time.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 06/08/2022 08:59

We have been a couple of times and enjoyed ourselves, the DC were young though so we weren't out late and didn't see much of the drinking culture.

We did do a day trip on the boat to Cambrils which was absolutely lovely. Very pretty, more "Spanish" iykwim. A lot quieter too. May be worth a look?

Pridehouse · 06/08/2022 09:22

Go to cambrills end of salou. Lovely small old town. Very friendly

Lissa282 · 02/09/2022 18:18

Hi
i went to Salou in May on my own for the first time and loved it! I was so scared before I went but I had the most relaxing time I’m going back at the beginning of October (solo again) for a week (I went for 4 days in May and it wasn’t long enough). I didn’t go out at night but during the day I felt safe enough. It’s pretty quiet in May and I should imagine the same in October but that was what I wanted, a quiet relaxing beach holiday. 😁
