Recommendations for Greece

Hi everyone!

I'm lost in Google! I'm looking to book a villa in Greece and want to find a nice village type spot, a little off the beaten track, but with options for dinner and drinks in the evenings.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Ooh! I'd be interested to hear any recommendations for Greece too!

Look up Panormos in Crete it’s small and there are some lovely villas there. The harbour is beautiful and there are lots of nice places to eat

Vamos, Crete.

It's authentic, fantastic restaurants, good location for sightseeing and plenty of beautiful villas.

ohthejoysoftoddler · 03/08/2022 19:19

Thank you! Going to look those two up now!

@ohthejoysoftoddler
Gennadi on Rhodes it has a huge unspoilt (pebbly) beach with crystal clear water and is a ‘proper’ village where people live all year round it’s very low key but it is a four hour transfer from the airport but worth it IMO
it’s very tranquil and has a very relaxed atmosphere some beautiful restaurants right on the beach and a village centre.
I’ve been twice and would go again.

We are staying here at the moment, it’s a beautiful location - a few tavernas a short walk away, lots going on in the bay a bit further and stunning views.

Check out Kardamyli on the Peloponnese. It’s at the top (ish) part of the third finger of the peninsular. You could fly to Kalamata or Athens and drive over. Here’s a little guide to the area. Mainland Greece us so often overlooked by visitors which is a shame as its marvellous.

*Middle finger.

We love Gavalochori in Crete which is a small village with a couple of fab restaurants but is only five minute drive to a good sandy beach with lots of bars/restaurants. My favourite place to go.

Ios is a beautiful little island, as beautiful and as instagrammable as Santorini but without the price tag. You have to get a ferry from Santorini so you can include a whistle stop tour of Santorini on route. Well worth it.

Trounlet · 04/08/2022 18:42

@midsomermurderess shhh....don't tell everyone, its too nice to share😁

midsomermurderess · 04/08/2022 19:20

Oops!

Sivota on mainland is beautiful also but the more southern islands (crete/Rhodes for example) are more reliable for weather later in the year

TwoMonthsOff · 04/08/2022 19:46

@Timwith2noses
Lefkada is lovely but I went Late September and it rained a lot, it’s beautiful and green in the Ionian because of the rains
I would love to go back to Lefkada. Your place looks idyllic ❤️
