Help! We’re in Brittany and I’m really not enjoying it much so I need some input from you wise lot! We’re staying near Brest - our gite is lovely but everywhere that’s recommended just seems to be a tourist trap - today we did Cameret sur Mer and Locronan.
We’ve never visited before - normally we go to the Loire or Champagne and I’m a real history buff 🙄 but I just can’t seem to find anything that is more than tourist shops!

Wonderful, thank you all so much! We went to a little port town today and we’re off to Pont Aven tomorrow, with loads of ideas from you all for the rest of the week x

As you mention an interest in history, while you are touring around, keep a look out for churches with an ossuary, they are a special feature in Brittany.
Some are quite elaborate, with sculptures and decorative features.

There is a famous one at Ploudiry, which must be close to you in Brest, The Église Saint Pierre has an ossuary and a Calvary.

I was going to also recommend Huelgoat

Another vote for Morlaix, famous for its historic linen and tobacco industries, with its pretty half timbered houses, typical of the 1500s style with overhanging stories. A couple of the houses are museums now.
Lovely sandy beaches nearby, also Saint Jean du Doigt worth a visit.

La Gacilly, Mont st Michel, Honfleur. I apologise if none are in Brittany!

Quimper as previously mentioned. Nearby Benodet is lovely.

Along the coast Cap Coz is beautiful.
