Hi all
thinking to spend about 3 days here, partly over a weekend, not in school holidays, probably mid Sep.

I don't drive. So if I want to see the gardens, the castle, the sea...will it cost a lot in cab fares? I will try to use buses where possible.

any advice welcome.
thank you.

Alnwick it’s self is very small. The gardens are right next to the castle. Where about are you staying?

If you like reading , get yourself to Barter books , it's a haven for 2nd hand books , thousands of them , cafe is nice as well .

I will decide where to stay based on price what's walkable I guess. I'd like some nice walks too. It might be that I'm better being based in a different place? I will do some proper research but thought I'd ask on MN first.

Pretty sure you will get a bus from amble railway station onto Alnwick itself - amble is on the coast

emmathedilemma · 02/08/2022 17:19

I'm fairly sure there's a bus from Alnwick to Alnmouth that also serves the station. There's a nice walk from Alnmouth to Warkworth along the coast that you could either do both ways or maybe get the bus back.

I have mixed up amble and alnmouth sorry ! It's a good walk between them

TraLaLaaa · 02/08/2022 17:56

I would do one night in Alnwick and two nights in Alnmouth, to get the balance of what you want to do.

The Dirty Bottles (I think it's called) was a great place to stay when we went to Alnwick.

I'm off to Alnwick in a couple of weeks having never been before. I'm really looking forward to it. I'll come back and let you know how we get on without a car!

this confused me when I looked at the map. I thought maybe I was just being lazy.

Dirty Bottles looks good. Thanks for all suggestions. Just some clean air and walks will be lovely!

I was trying to remember where we stayed in Alnmouth- it was The Whittling House - that was great too.

Blinkingmarvellous · 02/08/2022 19:31

We've just got back from a short break. The youth hostel is a good place to stay and walking distance to the bookshop and the gardens.

EmmaH2022 · 02/08/2022 20:03

Thanks Blinking

i might look at that depending on cost estimates.
