East Midlands Airport

Anyone flown from East Mids recently? We're due to use the airport in 2 weeks and hoping that the chaos isn't as bad as at Manchester.

I'm packing emergency swim stuff/ clothes in our carry on case and dividing clothes for me and DP between the other 2 cases.

Our airport transfer is adding a surcharge of £50 onto all of his TUI bookings as he's losing business waiting for 3 hours for customers to get out of the airport (this is mainly Manchester though).

He's agreed to allow us 75 minutes to get through passport control etc then will charge us £5 for every 15 minutes he waits. We looked at parking but we won't fit all of our luggage in the car. (My son and his girlfriend coming too)

We land at 1.30am coming back so hopefully the airport won't be too crazy!

East Midlands airport is absolutely fine and has escaped the chaos at other airports. I flew from there a few days ago. Dh uses it at least twice a week.

we went at a busy time on Sunday - lots of Tui holidays flights leaving at the same time as our flight - and we still got through security in about 5 minutes. Every single security desk was open, lots of staff, all very friendly and helpful. The only chaotic bit was Starbucks where I queued for about 40 minutes to get coffee.

i can’t believe you’ll need anything like 75 minutes to get your luggage when you return. Dh - no luggage, so admittedly quicker - steps off the plane and is at the pick up point in 5 minutes. It’s a good idea to look at the arrivals schedule and see if many other flights are arriving at the same time, if they are that slows things down a bit. If they’re not you’ll be through in no time at all. It’s a very small airport.

his £5 charge is fair enough. That’s what it costs for 15 minutes at the drive through pick up/drop off point (and £1 minute if you go over).

Midnight to 2am is peak arrival time at East Midlands Airport. It's when most Jet2 or Tui flights return to base, before flying out again during the following day. I'd expect passport control and luggage to take a bit longer than usual but I think 75 minutes + the very reasonable fee after, is as good an option as they come. Presumably there won't be any public transport available at that time.

Thank you both for your replies that's very reassuring.

Do you know if they have a baggage drop off for if you've already checked in online like they have at Manchester?
