Travelling to Egypt with a 6 yr old?

It's been a while since we took a proper holiday abroad with the family, last was Amsterdam when he was 3. I was thinking of going to Egypt because I've always wanted to. My question is should I look for packaged holidays or brave it on my own? Any recommendations one the packaged holidays? Planning for the 7 days during autumn break.
