Morning, I’d love to hear about holidays you have booked for October half term to inspire me and save my going round in circles!

When DC were young we went to Dubai. When they were a bit older we did city holidays. Depends what you and your family enjoy. We did a Nile cruise one year and New York another year. What do you want from a holiday?

ramonaquimby · 30/07/2022 09:55

We’ve been to Rome for October half term, weather was lovely and warm. Also Cornwall (not as busy as summer!) York, and Lisbon

TizerorFizz · 30/07/2022 11:38

I agree. Italy is brilliant in the Oct half term.

ProfessorLayton1 · 30/07/2022 15:38

We have been to Rome, Barcelona and my children's school had two weeks October half term when we have been to India , Florida, New York and Chicago.

rookiemere · 30/07/2022 15:57

Well we're going to Lanzarote as we go to Canaries most October half terms.
However I wouldn't recommend booking it now as the prices have really climbed.

We did Sorrento then high speed train to Rome one October, that was a lovely break.

TizerorFizz · 30/07/2022 19:00

@ProfessorLayton1
We had 2 weeks half term too. Sometimes DC went on school trips for one of them. We did India with Dc between Christmas and starting back in January.

Thethingswedoforlove · 30/07/2022 19:32

Just booked Florida for one week but one dd has a two week half term so considering sorrento too! No holiday this summer so keen to make up for it!

I’ve tried to tempt my DH with Dubai but he’s not keen.
We are an active family, who enjoying going off to explore the local area but it would be great if it was somewhere warm enough to sit by a pool in the afternoon.

We’ve done a very similar trip, combining Verona, Sorrento and Rome.
We absolutely love Italy but was assuming it wouldn’t be that warm in Oct half term.

I’ve got two DC, one of whom will have two weeks half term this year but her DS is starting secondary so only has one week.

I'd Say Canaries or Cyprus for October. Take a look at www.bestchildfriendlyholidays.co.uk for the best holidays, offers and deals.

Thank you @EmmaB1234

We're in the same boat and I'm wondering about a UK break with an indoor swimming pool so we can do active/outdoor stuff with a back up for bad weather. No idea where though.

eurochick · 31/07/2022 23:05

We've done Oman, Florida and the Maldives then. They all worked well.

Macarena1990 · 31/07/2022 23:06

We are going to Thailand. Have also done Dubai at that time of year - good time to go.

MrsDoofus · 31/07/2022 23:06

We've booked Cape Verde

Weirdlynormal · 01/08/2022 20:36

Jordan, by a long way. Totally amazing adventure for 1 week. Pool time also possible

ILOVEALLCAKES · 01/08/2022 21:26

Thank you @Weirdlynormal - I’ve never considered there. Off to do more research!

I’ve also been exploring the beach resorts in Morocco. I’d love to hear anyones experiences of trips there.

@ILOVEALLCAKES just booked Morocco for next year!

We travelled with families world wide. Their guides were brilliant. We had an amazing time. The kids totally loved it. We specifically ask for a pool where possible and the kids had a dip after most adventures. Brilliant week.

RetrainRetrain · 01/08/2022 21:40

Loved Morocco and Jordan but visited both in spring so wasn't even thinking about these for autumn. Highlight of Morocco was the Atlas mountains so I'd consider going inland too.

ILOVEALLCAKES · 01/08/2022 22:03

Thank you @Weirdlynormal and @RetrainRetrain. Can you recommend a specific region in Morocco?

OP posts:
Weirdlynormal · 01/08/2022 22:07

We are basing ourselves in Marrakesh, but a bit mor RnR than normal. Doing a history tour, tasting tour and a trip out to a womens charity. We’ve done a few desert hols so haven’t added any of that - interested in what about the Atlas Mountains was so good @RetrainRetrain
I did want to go to Fez but it was a long drive and we are treating this as a bit more relaxing

lot123 · 01/08/2022 22:12

We've previously visited South Africa and Florida in October half term (ours is a fortnight). This year we've booked one of the Ikos all inclusive resorts as people seem to rave about them.

RetrainRetrain · 01/08/2022 22:45

We went to Essaouira which was great (beach, amazing sunset, interesting port) and the Atlas mountains were just gorgeous. I loved the orchards in full flower, meeting people who lived there as we walked around the hills, genuinely charming BnBs, and the DC loved the trekking donkeys and climbing goats en route 😄

Whoops1 · 01/08/2022 22:52

Hello! These all sound lovely, but how do you get the time off? Do you have.. 2 weeks in summer 1 at half term and 1 at Xmas? And isn’t half term just a week? And how do you budget for it? Speaking as someone who’d LOVE to travel more.
