Hi, it’s our first time to IOW, we’re staying near Bembridge & wondered if there’s anything you’d recommend visiting/doing?

Blackgang chine/Robin hill!
Crave ice cream (the best!)
Amazon world or tapnell farm
Fish and chips (maybe arcade?) shanklin sea front!

We love the walk from the National Trust Car park to the Needles and Old Battery. We make a day of it!

Osborne House and Carisbrook castle are both English Heritage and my boys have always enjoyed visiting them

I used to spend all day mucking about on St. Helens beach. Although Ryde beach is just amazing and the tide is fascinating with the speed in which it comes in and out.

Black gang is great and Amazon World is interesting and you get to be in the same room as sloths. I also love the model village in Godshill although will be packed. And the chair lifts at the Needles are fun.

Robin Hill
The garlic farm
The Needles
Carisbrooke castle

You used to be able to buy a weekly ticket for Robin Hill and Blackgang chine so you can go back again.

Goodleaf Tree Climbing
Dinosaur Isle
Hire bikes from Wight Cycle hire for the Red Squirrel Trail
There’s an all-weather go-Karting track called Wight Karting
John Cattle’s Skate Club
Sandown Pier
Isle of Wight steam railway

PoundPill · 27/07/2022 18:44

Monkey World is great too

But definitely Blackgang chine and Robins Hill

You can get a weekly ticket to visit both of those

The DC will absolutely love it there

PoundPill · 27/07/2022 18:46

Bembridge has a gorgeous cove beach esp when the tide is out.

It's near a camp / mobile home place

MaliMom · 27/07/2022 18:49

Heya I live on the Isle we do Robin Hill and blackgang regularly and they're great for those ages.
Blackgang just got some new rides which are fun

Tapnell is OK lots for younger kids not as much for older ones but still fun.
The aqua Park is good at tapnell if the kids are confident swimmers.

Steep hill cove is nice they have great crab pasties down there
Ventnor botanical Gardens
Devils chimney
Sandown pier is nice as well
The Needles is OK the boat rides and chairlift are the best bits and the breezer bus is always a nice ride

N0va · 27/07/2022 19:58

Ryde beach also has sand park and water park too! And swan boat ride things!

The needles and ventnor botanical garden! Bring water and prepare for lots of walking at Ventnor

HereComesYourMam · 28/07/2022 16:41

The open top buses are great!

uggmum · 28/07/2022 16:52

Amazon world and monkey haven and Carisbrooke castle are great.

I thought Dinosaur isle was not worth the money.

I love Ventnor beach and a walk to Steephill Cove from Ventnor (over the tops, not on the road) is a lovely walk and there's nice cafe at steephill cove for lunch.

St Helen's is also nice and has another lovely cafe on the beach.

I love a wander around Cowes as it has nice shops and little coffee shops. Always nice to watch the boats. Might be boring for the kids though.

uggmum · 28/07/2022 16:55

How long are you there for. Cowes week starts on 30th July and there's lots to do, events, food carts and entertainment.

Usually there's park and ride for it. Well worth going as it's really vibrant.

hi, we have had so many holidays on the isle of wight, with 2 lots of kids at your ages. one of the fav things they have done is to go and see the fossilised dinosaur footprints at Compton Bay. Its a good beach too, but if you go at low tide, walk down to the beach and walk left with the sea in front of you, you will start to see the fossil footprints, and then you start spotting more and more.
when you go on the ferry over, they do lots of free magazines with advertising in which the kids used to like looking thru, but ours used to like silly quirky things like the secret garden out the back of The Olde Smithy giftshop in Godshill. Enjoy your break!
