Passport validity

I’m trying to work out if my passport is valid for my holiday under the new rules.

Can anyone advise please?

The holiday start date is 16th August 2022.

The passport issue date is 13th November 2012 and the expiry date is 13th August 2023.

10 years from the issue date would be 13th November 2022, is this classed as the true expiry date?

Any help would be much appreciated.

If you are travelling within the EU then the true expiry is 10 years after the issue date I.e. 13 November 2022 (this is what you go by on the date you fly out)

It needs to be valid for 3 months after you leave the EU country but that 3 months doesn't need to be within the 10 years you calculated above. This is where you look at the expiry date.

So the 3 months is calculated on the expiry date printed on the passport and not the 13th November 2022 date calculated and therefore my passport should be okay for the holiday?

It will because it it’s less than ten years old when she arrives in Spain and she will probably be coming home before May next year.

The 3 months remaining is judged on the true expiry date not the calculated one. The issue date/10 year validity counts on the date you are entering Spain. The 3 months remaining doesn't need to be within the 10 year period you calculate.
