We have BA vouchers to use up and would like to go somewhere next week for just 2 nights. Can get to London airports easily. Budget will be tight.
Where would you go?

@onlyconnect

Berlin
Copenhagen
Amsterdam

MaggieFS · 25/07/2022 16:20

Somewhere in Scandinavia.

MarshaMelrose · 25/07/2022 16:20

Copenhagen.

Shmithecat2 · 25/07/2022 16:21

Budapest, no doubt.

titchy · 25/07/2022 16:21

Venice, Dubrovnik, Copenhagen.

TreesAtSea · 25/07/2022 16:22

I'd second Amsterdam. Admittedly it isn't always an inexpensive place, but there's still so much there to see and do for little or no cost, whatever your interests are.

andwhy · 25/07/2022 16:22

Who is we, adults, teenagers, kids?

yonce · 25/07/2022 16:22

Not Copenhagen on a tight budget - so expensive imo (lovely but not cheap!).

Amsterdam and Berlin are fab for cheap breaks, same for Lisbon or some Italian cities!

TheBikiniExpert · 25/07/2022 16:28

I would avoid Italy if you want sightseeing. Too hot!

BarbaraofSeville · 25/07/2022 16:29

I'd start by looking on Skyscanner or the BA website for places they fly to where you go out in the morning and return in the afternoon evening to make the most of the trip.

Plus to fly for a decent price for those flights of course, also that the destination airport is accessible to somewhere of interest, where you can get reasonably priced accommodation at short notice. Also the cost of hotels and food/drink in the destination is a consideration.

No point suggesting destinations where the flights are expensive when you can go or the times are inconvenient, or there's a long transfer to anywhere of interest.

Also if you're on a tight budget, even if there is cheap flights to Scandinavia, it's very expensive when you get there, so might not be suitable.

Skyscanner at least has an 'I'll go anywhere' option where you can set the budget for the flights and also set the times so you're not losing half the trip by arriving late at night and returning early in the morning.

MarshaMelrose · 25/07/2022 16:30

Definitely somewhere in Western Europe with shortest flights if you're only doing 2 nights. Otherwise you're going to be in the airport all the time. My friend flew over from Holland last week and he said the Dutch airports are short staffed and the waiting times and delays are awful. So I'd avoid there!

minipie · 25/07/2022 16:30

Ooh what a lovely problem! I’d avoid anywhere obviously “summer holiday” as it will be heaving and booked solid. So probably not the Med options.

Scandinavian options will be expensive

I’d go Eastern Europe somewhere. Budapest is a good call.

Horriblewoman · 25/07/2022 16:31

Lisbon

I'd normally say Copenhagen or Stockholm but they're not amazing on a budget

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 25/07/2022 16:39

Nice
Barcelona
Toulouse

Soma · 25/07/2022 16:44

Forgot to say, if you go to Berlin, check if the 9 Euro travel card is still available as you can use it on all forms of transport and to and from the airport.

whereamu · 25/07/2022 16:47

Krakow had cheap hotels.

Oblomov22 · 25/07/2022 16:50

I'm been searching for cheapest flights for ds1. There were few cheap flights. Italy cheapest. Most of the suggestions above, the flights were just too expensive.

Moonpies · 25/07/2022 17:01

If tight budget, then I'd say south France, south Italy or Eastern Europe (Budapest, Prague, Bucharest, Vilnius, Tallinn, Riga or Croatia). I'd maybe go to Tallinn or Budapest for a city break.

onlyconnect · 25/07/2022 17:11

Thank you for all the replies! It is certainly a great "problem " to have.
One issue is that there isn't much available with BA on those dates, I guess either because the flights are full or cancelled.
So nothing available for Dubrovnik, Budapest, Toulouse and others mentioned.
Agree Scandinavia is too expensive once you get there, although that would be too choice.
The price of the flight doesn't matter because we cancelled a NYC flight for four and have loads. If anyone wants to use some of it, we'll give you 10% off- DM me. Has to be BA.
There are a couple of places mentioned we haven't checked out so I'll look at those.
Oh, and to answer another question, it's 2 adults and a 9 year old who's very easy going.

Northern Spain - what about Bilbao or Santiago de Compostela? Hopefully not as hot as the rest of Spain and shouldn't be hideously expensive when you get there. We always find eating out in Spain very good value.

BarbaraofSeville · 25/07/2022 17:41

If you have BA money to spend, does it have to be on a flight only booking or can use it on a flight and hotel booking?

onlyconnect · 25/07/2022 17:52

BarbaraofSeville unfortunately it has to be flights only.
Yes Bilbao is possible and is on our list!

Porto is another fab Portuguese city and has some cool things to entertain a 9 year old (cable car across the river, a castle, trams, river boat ride etc).

sixtiesbaby88 · 25/07/2022 18:12

Valletta
Toledo
Valencia

midsomermurderess · 25/07/2022 21:48
