I know the U.K. side is in chaos at the moment but what is it like returning from France?

We came back yesterday evening with no problems or delays. I don’t know if that’s typical or we were just lucky. The queues going into France looked horrendous.

Thunderpunt · 24/07/2022 12:35

Good to know....

Thunderpunt · 24/07/2022 12:36

When are you crossing OP?

ColdCottage · 24/07/2022 18:30

@MrsWobble3 thank you.

I do think it’s the morning ferry’s are worse and evening ferry’s are much easier, similar to airport queues

Thunderpunt · 24/07/2022 18:52

We crossing tomorrow evening so I'll update you then @ColdCottage

EspeciallyDeIighted · 24/07/2022 18:53

We cane back through the tunnel this afternoon, no bother at all.

Thunderpunt · 24/07/2022 18:54

Also worth following eurotunnel twitter account, years ago we got stuck due to lorry blockades and ended up staying in an Ibis or similar at Calais but their twitter account was great for updates

EspeciallyDeIighted · 24/07/2022 18:56

They have service updates on their website too

ColdCottage · 24/07/2022 19:24

@Thunderpunt thank you. I really appreciate that! 🌟

Good to hear @EspeciallyDeIighted thanks

OhMerde · 25/07/2022 00:19

I had no issues at all 4 days ago. No delays and all went smoothly.

Threelittlelambs · 25/07/2022 00:23

Friends had delays yesterday with staff shouting at each other in the chaos - they were glad to be delayed only slightly.

Thunderpunt · 26/07/2022 23:13

@ColdCottage
All fine yesterday, about half an hour or queue for customs and the trains were all running half hour late, so we should have been on the 15.50 and ended up departing at 16.20 but definitely better than the UK side!
Safe journey

ColdCottage · 27/07/2022 11:40

It is always quicker returning from France to England , because the processing is done by UK Border Control, who are adequately staffed and want to get through the process as fast as possible, without making a political point ( naughty Brits taking their subsidies away).

Not what a lot of Mumsnetters want to hear, but true in the last twenty years of living in both countries.

EspeciallyDeIighted · 27/07/2022 12:17

We were checked by both lots of border control in both directions this time.

Well the French can staff their border however they choose. Britain was the country that chose a route that required long checks. Not up to the French taxpayer to have to fund extra staff to pay for it.

Hope your journey back is ok OP. Mid-week evenings IME are a quiet-ish time to travel.

ColdCottage · 09/08/2022 21:09

As totally clear coming back. No issues
