I need to stop tracking flights don't I?!

I've been tracking 'our' holiday flight (we go in Tuesday) and it's been hit by very severe delays yesterday and today...does this bode badly for us or does it not mean anything?! I need to stop looking I think 🤔

I know how you feel feel but yes.

Just pray for your own flight. The others really don't matter 🤷🏻‍♀️

bigbluebus · 20/07/2022 08:12

Yes you need to stop tracking. You are just worrying about something you cannot control.

Kapalika · 20/07/2022 08:12

Also know how you feel! We're supposed to fly on Sunday.

justasking111 · 20/07/2022 08:13

Try tracking shipping it's way more interesting

duvetdrama · 20/07/2022 08:16

At this point I just can't see it going well next week when it's our turn...I'll need to stop but I can't...aarrghhh!

Yes, stop looking. You can't control it.

The great majority of holiday flights are getting away as usual. I am recently back from holiday in Spain and except for a half-hour delay (nothing really) there were no issues. We flew from Stansted Airport, which appeared to be operating as usual.

Many things can cause delays, including congestion at airports and new computer systems with glitches (that was the cause of our small delay). It doesn't always spell doom and gloom. The media will only report on the disasters, not on the vast majority of cases where there is no issue over and above the normal ones.

@justasking111 that sounds interesting, is there an app/site you’d recommend please?

OP I used to do this on the teletext before the days of the www. It really doesn’t matter what’s happened with other flights, try to relax and look forward to your holiday

Thank you 🙂

Stop. What does tracking achieve? You know what's going to happen if yours does, so you're as mentally prepared as you can be. Pointless to worry about things outside your control.

As has been said most flights are getting away on or close to schedule, but on time flights don't sell papers/generate clicks.

As for tracking one flight for a day or two - You'd need to see multiple days stats for a flight and know the reasons for any delays (which the tracking sites can't give) before being able to guess at what might happen next week.

I should point out for completeness that there is sometimes a pattern to delays on some flights - if you look hard enough you do sometimes see there are services that have a tendency to run late. You usually see it happening on some of the evening short haul departures where the crew/aircraft has accumulated delays on previous sectors during the day, but there's still some randomness to it, often they actually are on time..

Fundamentally you're still going to have to check in/be at the airport at the time advertised, so there's probably no point in tracking the flight and certainly no point in worrying about it...it won't change anything.

Have a good flight.

Duttercup · 21/07/2022 10:00

What does it even matter? Your flight's delayed, you have a shit day. Your flight isn't delayed, you have a slightly less shit but hardly life changing day.

duvetdrama · 21/07/2022 10:10

@notimagain thanks...wise words and I know that I would be saying the same
to someone else, just need to apply it to myself more

OP posts:
duvetdrama · 21/07/2022 10:13

@Duttercup don't think I said it would be life changing? All I was saying (on a travel board) was that I hope it doesn't happen ...a weeks holiday with a delay of 13 hours on the way out means a day lost. That's all.

OP posts:
Duttercup · 21/07/2022 12:25

I was just answering your question 'I need to stop tracking flights, don't I' with the answer 'yes, because it doesn't matter either way'. What will happen will happen.

I was also saying that even a non-delayed flying day isn't a life-changingly good day. All travel is a bit shit.

But you go off.

duvetdrama · 21/07/2022 13:06

@Duttercup you didn't say 'yes' you said 'what does it even matter' I think it does matter when you lose a days holiday.

Duttercup · 21/07/2022 13:37

Ok! Hope it all goes well!
