Sorrento coast with kids

We have a lot of Pompeii and Vesuvius fans in the house so I'm looking at a short break in October half term when it's cooler (and cheaper!), to visit.

DH and I had a fabulous long weekend there a few years but the logistics wouldn't have worked for kids - our hotel was off the main drag so a bit of a walk to the station and restaurants for example, and we got the train to Pompeii and Herculaneum which might stretch my lot a bit.

Has anyone been to the area with children and have recommendations for hotels/apartments/transfer options - and whether car hire makes sense? We didn't think the very touristy bit of Sorrento was very nice (and the traffic was appalling) but assume it's convenient?

We stayed here www.rotasuites.com/en/servizi.php as it was quite convenient location wise and you could use a posh hotel pool for an additional fee - we went in October and it was still warm enough to sunbathe and swim in the sea.

I wasn't overly enamoured with Sorrento but it is a handy base - I'd also add Capri to the list of places to visit.
I wouldn't take a car but I'd recommend this company www.transferelax.com/ for transfers.

Thanks. I did see them on Expedia and was quite interested. Are they well placed for the station do you know?

Yes it's not far to the station from what I remember.
Do get off at the right stop for Pompeii and don't do what we did and get off one too early.

Ha! We’ve managed it before so should be OK.
