Honeymoon

Because of the pandemic, me & DH didn’t really get a “wedding” as such. We planned a bigger party after but all the cancellations and rearranging got too much and we decided we’re married enough! But we’ve just been given £3000 and want to use it on a honeymoon type holiday in September this year. But have no idea where and can’t agree! I’m expecting some travel chaos but will be avoiding travelling from a London airport at all costs. We’re doing a big trip next year across America and seeing that as our honeymoon / dream holiday. So it doesn’t need to be to that scale but somewhere nice, good sights, beach, chance to relax and chill. All inclusive would be nice but also don’t mind some adventure. Ideally we’ve got 10 days we can use.

Any top tips / destination ideas?!

Santorini? Mykonos? Amalfi Coast is beautiful. Various destinations in Italy - Venice, Tuscany etc.

Madeira would be nice then. You could do a range of water sports, walking, golf. This place look fantastic www.kuoni.co.uk/portugal/madeira/hotels/the-cliff-bay

Hi, we spent a fortune and went to Bali for our honeymoon. In hindsight we could’ve got a lovely villa/all incl. hotel in Spain/Italy for the same price/much cheaper so I definitely recommend staying closer to home. Menorca is stunning as is Italy Portofino…so romantic.
Have an amazing time wherever you go!

Why avoid London airports? Lots of cancellations everywhere. We’ve used Heathrow T5 last month and perfectly ok.

What you do need to know is that if any flights are cancelled, it’s usually short haul. However BA has removed lots of flights this summer and Sept is usually quieter anyway. The bad news is that flights have become more expensive. You might wish to consider if BA is a better option than TUI or Easy Jet though. Many non scheduled airlines have cancelled flights.

Regarding where to go: you might get very cheap and cheerful long haul but is it worth it? Hurricane season in Caribbean but you might be ok with New York on cost. Boston and New England would be great but $/£ rate is awful.

Closer to home, the South of France is lovely with romantic hotels. Majorca has some too. Italy is brilliant for culture and hotels as well as food. You could try Tuscany and try car hire, or city hop: Venice, Florence and Rome. Trains run between them. . Venice, Bologna, Milan are good places to base yourself too.

Another idea might be Iceland. Not if you want sun and sea but it’s very different. Ireland also has romantic scenery and hotels. You might also like Sardinia and Croatia for seaside. Hope you have a lovely time wherever you choose.,
