Holiday destination help (UK)

We are a family of four - myself, DH, DD (5) and DS (2). Looking for a weeks holiday in august at somewhere preferably North Devon coast but also looking at Welsh coast.
DH doesn’t want any type of “holiday park” setting ie with a clubhouse, loads of kids on their summer break etc. I, however think our two will be bored if we stay somewhere without any kids at all!
Ideally we’d like perhaps a caravan/cottage on a quiet, relaxed holiday park which attracts some families but couples, walkers, hikers, the quiet type! Somewhere near a quiet town/village with history, some nice local walks etc.

A kids play area and pool would also be great. Oh and near some nice beaches!
Has anyone been to somewhere like this?!

Forest holidays were my first thought after reading your post.

Never been but people used to recommend Sandy Balls in Hampshire

Or River Dart Country Park, Dartmoor
or (not a region you listed)
Kelling Heath in Norfolk.

For slightly different option, this is a good place to stay and very kid friendly but not too busy Show Caves Wales

My sister Air BnBs her house which is in a location like you describe. No idea how much she charges, but Westward Ho!, Appledore, Bideford are all lovely to stay in. Hers isn't in one of those but nearby in a little village, I just don't want it to look like I'm touting for business for her!

I know Air BnB gets a lot of hate on here and I do agree with some of it, but she lives in her house but lets it when she is away, so how Air BnB was meant to be (I think).

I second Croft Farm Cottages. We also loved Cranmer Country Cottages in Norfolk. We found both through the Premier Cottages website - they have quite a lot of cottages that are in groups and hence have more facilities eg swimming pool, play area etc
