Following on from the Birmingham thread...

Anyone been to Bristol airport in the last week? We've been told to arrive 3 hours early by our airline.

I hope it's ok by mid August!

pokerdone · 18/07/2022 17:39

I'm sure it will be! Just interested to hear if they are being precautionary or if it is very busy Confused.

I flew out friday 9th and in on 14th. Really straightforward. We'd paid for express security option but the queue for regular was pretty short. Only had cabin cases but didn't see many queuing for the carousels

salmongrey · 18/07/2022 17:41

3 hours early or 3 hours before the flight?

I thought airports were saying the latter as people turning up 4-6 hours before their flight were making the queues and chaos worse.

courtrai · 18/07/2022 17:46

Ahhh yes the restaurants and bars were heaving and short staffed. The whole check in/security bit was fine; normal. I guess if they're telling people to be super early that's why

3 hours before the flight, so giving you an extra hour.

So it is very busy. Luckily, last night I decided to buy us fast track security passes for about £5 each and it saved us about an hour of queuing. All shops and restaurants are busy but do-able!

They are obviously expecting queues as have put up a marquee outside.

Another bonus was only taking cabin baggage Wink.

I was going to ask whether the fast track security was worth it! I think I might spend £25 on that too.

pokerdone · 24/07/2022 16:09

It definitely was worth it for us!

Has anyone got a flight between 6am-7am? The airport website suggests that is the busiest time. We're flying out at 6:40 on Thursday...

Twoshoesnewshoes · 24/07/2022 17:37

We were on an afternoon flight from there ten days ago.
no queue for security, but backstreet’s back bars and restaurants were very packed with long queues for food.
there was also limited seating for an hour or two (probably because everyone turned up early for their flight!) but then fine.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 24/07/2022 17:38

Don’t know where backstreet’s back came from, my daughter has done something to my phone

Flew from Bristol twice in last 5 weeks. 0600 and 0700 flights, both trouble free. Check in/bag drop was hassle free and no queues (jet2) , security took a few minutes for 0600 flight, and 10 for 0700. Departure lounge was busy, but OK. It gets quiet from about 0530 - 0600.

I think there is something like 25 flights from 0600 to 0730 daily from Bristol, so morningsare worse but still OK. I honestly wouldn't dread it at all, it will be fine in the afternoon.

After some advice- l’m flying out on Monday morning, flight leaves at 7am. I need to catch a bus and can arrive at 2 or 4am. Is 3 hours enough time? Or best to get there at 2?

Nonamenoplacetogo · 30/07/2022 11:21

One more thing- is Superdrug open? I cannot find any opening times for the shops after security and need to buy suncream

This is sounding very positive!

I'll try to remember to ask when I'm there tomorrow but making no guarantees cos my mind is like a sieve Grin

We had a 7am flight in early July and found 3hrs prior to flight was fine. We had time to queue for check in, stand in the long security queue and then queued to order and sat to eat in burger king, and then our gate was called at 6.10. Perfect and no unnecessary waiting around!

Watto1 · 30/07/2022 12:57

Our flight was at 6:20am on Monday and everything went very smoothly. The self service bag drop was easy and we sailed through security. Flight took off bang on time. Hopefully our return flight is the same!

Thank you, that’s very helpful
