Canaries in February

We're thinking of booking a holiday for February half term. First thought is Canary Islands... just looking for experience of people who have done this and thoughts please? Doesn't appear to be significantly cheaper than the summer but really fancy some winter sun. Only going for a week so don't really fancy long haul. TIA.

I go in mid March every year and the weather has ranged from bloody awful to boiling. Usually a mix of in between. Cool at night. If you want guaranteed sun in Feb it’s Mexico or the Caribbean or Dubai. Or Far East. Don’t go expecting wall to wall sunshine.

Second comments above. It can be very cold at night I have found and no warm duvets to snuggle under.

We were in Lanzarote this year 1st week of March. It was very chilly of a morning and evening. Coat not cardigan cold. Pool was a real challenge even at 3pm. Its made me vow to never do it again even if it IS a bargain!

We always used to go in the half term holidays and have had baking hot weather, lovely warm weather and rain. Can get chilly at night. There are lots of things to do if it rains - and it will be a lot warmer than here

If you want winter sun, then look at Morocco. Only 3.5 hours flight.

We had weather like a normal British summer but friends went the first week of March and it rained all week and the hotel gave them blankets so they could sit wrapped up in them while they played bridge.

I last went February half term just before the pandemic hit. Weather was glorious. Hot at 6am and we appreciated the aircon. South side of Tenerife is much warmer than the north. We always go to Costa Adeje

We have been to Tenerife or Lanzarote in Feb half term many times, always had great weather. Feb half time is a peak time as canaries are a 365 sun destination. Personally I prefer Lanzarote. Enjoy.

We went to Lanzarote one February half term, and the weather was cool, cloudy and windy. It never got above 18 degrees untill the last day when we hit the dizzy heights of 20 degrees. Luckily our apartment had a bath in the bathroom and a heater so we could get properly warm in the evening.

Generally OK, though have had drizzle one day in Feb. Get a heated pool. Its lovely getting off the plane and its really hot and sunny. Agree with others, its cool at night

We've been to the canaries many times in January/February.

Lanzarote has always been much cooler, around 16-18 degrees.

We usually go to Tenerife now, that's usually around 23-24, so warm enough to wear summer clothes and go in the pool.

liveeverysecond · 18/07/2022 20:13

Thank you everyone. I'm looking more at Tenerife as an option. I'm not expecting it to be really hot, but better than the UK. I've looked at UK holidays and not much cheaper!

if you look at the weather averages for tenerife and lanzarote they arent much different - tenerife a degree warmer at night and one more rainy day per month. People either seem to love tenerife or lanzarote - we prefer the latter as there are restrictions on building height.

I went to Lanzarote in March and didn't enjoy it much because it was just too windy. I didn't even get that unlucky with the weather - didn't get any rain or even much cloud, but the wind was extremely irritating. Like, it was covering me with sand at the beach. Much more than a nice breeze. I'm sure that wind is glorious right now, with the higher temps, but in March it was just too much and made it feel cold.
