Permission letter for travelling abroad

Off on holiday with my 3DDs next month however no longer with their Dad. Intending to take copies of birth certificates but ex happy to sign a letter as backup (all civil) Can it literally just be a signed letter saying going to x on these dates with passport numbers? Does it need to be verified or have any other legal jargon? TIA.

I've done this with no legal verification.

I add my ex's mobile number on the letter just in case.

I've only been asked at passport control once - strangely when entering the UK.

Brilliant thanks @weekendninja Really don't want any issues at passport control as I think it would upset my DDs. I'll just draft a letter (I assume 1 letter will be sufficient for all 3 DDs?)

Thank you!

I type a letter from my ex with his address, phone number, his passport number, and a statement saying
“I… give permission for children A (passport no, dob) and B (same details) to travel with their mother (my passport no) to DESTINATION on DATE, returning on DATE

He signs and dates it.

we’ve never been asked, but it’s reassuring to know I’ve done what I can. This time the country we’re off to advised I should take copies of their birth certificates, and I’ve got a photocopy of his passport too.

I just used to tell the kids, if anyone asks, it’s because they’re being careful. But we all know that their dad is happy for us to go and have a lovely time.

good luck. Hope that helps.

Thanks @Ohhelpicantthinkofaname. I've drafted something similar today although didn't include ex's passport number so might include that. I might ask for a copy of his passport too. It's all fine, just want to make sure I've done what I can to make sure no issues!
