xmas break with baby and toddler

WE'D LIKE to go on a short break between xmas and new years eve, but we are unsure where to go. Our youngest will be only 7 weeks.

We've been o luxury family hotels before and loved it, but our toddler was 14 months then.
WE're not too sure how it would work with a young baby...We know we can't leave her at the creche yet, but would like to know if anyone's done a hotel break with such a young baby, nad was it worth it??

We'd like to be able to relax and spend some time together as a family...

thanks!

I'd go to a nice British place (like Fowey Hall).
No hassle with airports and planes or time zones.
The baby could just accompany you wherever you go in his carseat.
I've found that the smaller they are, the easier they are to go off with. It's when they start walking that the work really starts IMO.

One of my friends stayed at The Ickworth with her ds1 (2.5) and ds2 (6 weeks). She said it was lovely - still very relaxing as her youngest was still sleeping a lot. She still got to eat in the restaurant each evening and have a break.

Ooooh yes Puff. Glad to hear that as I want to try that place out next.
(I read about a fab spa in Belgium where they do a package for new mothers and babies (up to 9 months) The relevant supplement was left in a prominent position in the living room for a loooooong time.)

hi webmum, 3 places I love which we went to when DS was very small - St David's Hotel in Cardiff Bay (laterooms do a good price), the Morgan hotel in Dublin and Castell Deudraeth at Portmeirion in north-west Wales - my favourite favourite & also on laterooms.

moondog · 29/11/2004 15:25

Castell Deudraeth just down the road from me when home. It is great for Sunday lunch and the other hotel (Portmeirion) is gorgeous.

Have you tried the spa thingy in St David's? Apparently it is one of the best deals going.
Sounds like just the thing post baby!

How about Alton Towers splash landings hotel?? We popped in when we went to Alton Towers a few weeks ago and it looked great.

mishmish · 29/11/2004 16:45

hi moondog, yes I did try the spa and it's lush lush lush! I'm about an hour from Portmeirion. x

hi webmum, went to the ickworth hotel when ds was 2 - there were lots of other babies around too. had a wonderful time. check out their website (www.luxuryfamilyhotels.com) and they should say what ages their creches cater for. think all 4 in the chain are doing specials for smas and new year.

We went to St. David's Cardiff when dd2 was 12 wks. Service was great and they had no problem with us eating in the (very nice) restaurant with the car seat perched next to us. Just one thing -we had a junior suite and there wasn't that much room once the travel cot was up.

thanks to all, but it looks like dh wont be able to take any time off...only time we could go is mid dec and dd2 will be only 5 weeks, not sure i'm brave enpough for atrip, especially since she seems to be feeding all the time still.

I'll keep in mind all the suggestions anyway, thanks!!!!
