We have a week in Sept to travel round North & South Carolina, just the two of us 40+ ! Will arrive in Charleston and definitely visit Wilmington.

We love live music, beautiful beaches, piers and classic buildings.

if you’ve been what did you love, we are open to all suggestions - thank you !

Asheville NC is supposed to be lovely to visit. I really liked Beaufort SC too!

Asheville is great
Blue Ridge Parkway
Savannah (over the border in GA but well worth visiting if you like beautiful buildings)
Outer Banks NC for beaches and piers (and lighthouses)
Hilton Head Island

The Biltmore Estate
Chimney Rock State Park (can be a day trip from Asheville]
Cape Hatteras National Seashore
Blue Parkway to Grandfather Mountain

Thank you all, so much for those suggestions. I can see a week will in no way do these states justice !
The lighthouses were a great shout, definitely on the list now.

I’m so out of touch had to Google Jamie Fraser !! 😊😂🤦‍♀️

In addition to the great recommendations already given I’d add USS Yorktown. I went rather reluctantly in the name of compromise for a friend we were vacationing with and it was honestly amazing. We also really liked Folly Beach.

I live in Charleston and can confirm that Folly Beach is nice, but I actually prefer Sullivans Island. There are several plantations that are nice to visit, Fort Sumter is a good day out too. Lots of great restaurants!

A week is nothing - there is tons to see in each state - so I would pick a specific area and do that in detail rather than try to hit a huge area and just end up exhausted and feeling like you spent the entire time sitting in the car.

So since Charleston and Wilmington are on your must-see list, I'd do 2-3 nights in each and another night or two en route between the two. Personally, I love the Outer Banks and could easily spend a week there as there is lots to do and Sept would be perfect with the main summer crowds having departed.
