Northern Spain - Cantabria / picos mountains

We are off to northern Spain via the ferry to Santander in a few weeks. Looking forward to it - we have a ‘tour ‘ type holiday booked with 2/3 nights in hotels along the coast through the picos mountain area to Leon and then back to Santander.
Surprisingly our DC ( both over 18) have decided to come along - which is lovely and it will be nice to spend the time together (and maybe it will be the last holiday as a family. )
Does anyone have any experience of this area and ideas of things I can book for the dc whilst away - I’m thinking any opportunities for kayaking / water sports etc?

TIA

We went over 20 years ago and there was kayaking available then, although we didn't do it. We did go horse riding which was fun. also did the cable car up to the viewing platform at Fuente De and the walk back down. There is a drive up the mountain to a lake with good views, Covadonga I think it was, but it was very misty the day we went so no views, in fact we couldn't even see the lake! The drive up was pretty hair raising though 😀

We are thinking of similar OP, do you have any tips? Which company did you use to organise?

Gosh just seen this in my watching threads! I’d forgotten I’d even posted that.

@pickingupallthepieces we used a company to do us a planned self drive tour called Casas Cantabrias - they are great. They booked us some fab hotels we would never have found ourselves - none were commercial mostly family run - and you have an app where all your documents and itinerary is saved plus tips of where to go etc. We would definitely use them again - totally independent holiday but with all the booking sorted!

That's a good tip, thanks! I will get in touch with them now and see what they recommend!

Gijon might be worth a visit. It’s a a smallish, quite cool city on the coast in Asturias with lots of water-based activities, surfing lessons, kayak tours along the coast, paddle boarding.
