GrandSlamFinalee · 08/07/2022 18:15

Expert Africa.

OP, what do you want from this thread? As it stands you'll just get a list of travel agents.

JerkintheMerkin · 08/07/2022 18:30

I love Trailfinders. Wish I could call them right now but I'm broke Hmm

Georgyporky · 08/07/2022 18:36

TUI is not a travel agent, they only sell their own package tours.

I used to book everything independently, but now look for a specialist company for the country I want to visit, & of course check for ABTA & ATOL protection.

PatsyJStone · 08/07/2022 18:45

Not used one in over ten years, probably
a lot more

Kuoni

whiteroseredrose · 08/07/2022 19:29

I usually book direct because I don't like feeling that I'm not in control of the bookings (a voucher is not as good IMO as an actual email confirmation that you're getting the superior room with view etc).

However we used Bon Voyage for our California trip and they were great. I wanted specific accommodation in Yosemite and Grand Canyon that could only be booked 1 year and 1 day in advance and generally sold out that day - and they sorted it.

I'm looking at Travel Local for Vietnam or Costa Rica as they are very flexible and use local companies in the country.

OperaStation · 08/07/2022 19:32

Do travel agents still exist? I only know of Trailfinders and Kuoni but they’re very specifically for people with a lot of money.

willstarttomorrow · 08/07/2022 21:29

Skyscanner and booking.com to reserve somewhere with free cancellation whilst I google alternatives. Get transfer for transfers (and google alternatives). Caxton fx as a currency card.

Not true about Trailfinders. They now have a partnership with Jet2 so are better able to serve those after European beach package holidays.

I use Trailfinders pretty much exclusively. They have been cheaper than pulling it all together myself EVERY TIME apart from once. Yes, they do some fancy holidays, but they also do more normal holidays.

My parents refuse to use 'the internet' as it's full of crooks apparently so they use travel agents.

Fuckers charged them £400 more than the online rate to book two flights. My mother said 'yes but they gave us loads of paperwork for the flight!'

What the hell is the point of a travel agent?!

After the 2020 disaster with independent bookings we played safe this year and booked with TUI. Also, with TUI DD (15) is classed as a child while the hotel wanted to book her as an adult and the price suddenly exploded for the same room and period.

We looked at Trailfinders for a trip and were impressed with their quotes and suggestions.

We also used Virgin Holidays twice for the Caribeean but the main reason was that we wanted to convert Virgin Airmiles into vouchers for the trip and it's impossible to do outside Virgin.

Howyoualldoworkme · 09/07/2022 18:07

Inghams, been booking with them for 20 years. I suppose they're not strictly a travel agent though.

Very helpful & knowledgeable

LondonWolf · 09/07/2022 18:16

Myself. I never go through travel agents. I don't really understand why people do. I like researching, booking and planning it all myself and staying in control of the process.

So do I but it takes a hell of a long time.
