Passport query

Child going on school trip in a few months. Passport expires mid-Feb 2023

Government website states there must be 3 months of valid passport after return date - he has 3 months, 2 weeks left after date of return (returns end of Oct).

So, within allowable time limits. I feel uneasy that I'm cutting it a bit short, but hearing horror stories about delayed passport applications.

It's fine to keep the current one, isn't it?

It is but as you have lots of time why not renew?

I dont know the ins and outs of it all but I believe you're no longer supposed to go by the expiry date, but rather what date is 10 years (5 for kids maybe?) from the issue date.

Worried about renewing now as there are big delays. I wound worry it wouldn't be back in time?
