Summer holiday with kids - first since DH died in May

hi there, I guess the subject says it all. My DH died in May, quite traumatically. I have two DC - DS13 and DD9 (who is autistic). They are desperate to go abroad after 2 years of shielding (my DH was very clinically vulnerable), so I'm looking for somewhere for us to go abroad for 7-10 days - preferably all-inclusive or half-board, somewhere I can relax and drink wine, and they can have fun. I know it will be difficult, everything is horrendous for us at the moment, but it's either we go away in the UK, which could be quite depressing if the weather is bad and expensive - or we don't go anywhere, which is not really an option for the kids- they deserve to have some fun. I don't have anyone we can go with, which I know would be better for me, so looks like it will be me and the two kids.

I think somewhere not too far but in a nice hotel, with good food, and preferably somewhere close by to visit with restaurants, cafes etc. We used to go camping in gorgeous areas of France, travelling around, and also stay in lovely places in Majorca for eg. when DH was alive, so this will be very different to what we're used to. I'd really like to avoid France, and I hate to say it, Majorca as well, as it reminds me of my DH too much - but if there's somewhere really special there, I would consider it. Does anyone have any suggestions?! Thanks.

I recommend looking at here maybe for next time - singlewithkids.co.uk/single-parent-holidays/. Not cheap but the best holidays I've had. Enjoy your hols this year. I'm sure it will be great.

My friend took her DC to Cape Verde for the first holiday after being widowed and they all had a lovely time. She booked a few excursions which she said they enjoyed.

I just read your update, that sounds fantastic.

Hope you have a great time!!! For future reference lake garda is one of my best holidays when my children were about same age as yours. Lovely little towns dotted all around it with fantastic little pizzerias and ice cream places which my boys loved and reasonably priced and gardaland (a theme park that was actually a joy to walk around for adults as flowers everywhere). We used to do eurocamp type holidays (which I drove to with three boys) though so plenty of action sports wise and pools on the site for in the daytime.
