Unheated pool

Just realised the pool where we're staying in Portugal in July is unheated - will it be warm enough for a wimp like me to swim in? Thanks

If it has a pool cover make sure you put it on every night at sunset/when you finish using it, whichever is the later. It will help prevent heat loss overnight and keep it warmer.

I was going to say the same.

We swim in the marine lake in the U.K. year round (wet suits in winter) you are being a wimp Grin

Live in Portugal with an unheated pool and it's just lovely at this time of year, you often desperately want to cool down

Wetsuits in winter? Here in the North East, we reluctantly put our socks and gloves on when we have a sharp frost🤣

If a pool is cold even though it can be heated, it's because the $$ is just too high to heat it so the owner won't turn on the heating for one guest.

We came back 2 weeks ago from Portugal. Pool wasn't heated and it was fine.

We missed the worst of the heatwave at home in France but the water in our pool is currently 30 degrees. I've had colder baths!

Watch a bit of Wim Hof before you go! Swimming in cold water is brilliant for your heart, brain, circulation - everything. You just need to adjust to it and it’s really exhilarating. Although I do agree that it feels worse somehow in hot countries - coldest pool ever was in Spain and I felt like I’d turned blue by the time I got out. At least you’re forewarned, so don’t let it spoil your holiday. Jump in, though, or you’ll never get in past your thighs!

I used to swim in what is now Katie Price's pool in Sussex every July when it was my Grandparents house, that was unheated and was absolutely fine, I'm sure portugal will be warmer.

Plenty of people swim in the north sea off the Yorkshire coast when we're up in Whitby or Filey every year, so I'm sure it'll be fine.

I found an unheated pool in Tunisia in April to be bearable but not pleasurable and an unheated pool in Greece in August to be unbearable. I had to face the fish in the sea instead
