How long to renew child's passport?

Dingdong99 · 05/07/2022 13:46

I need to renew my child's passport, and have a 12 week window between two trips away

Is this long enough to safely renew using their standard process, or would you go for more expensive but faster service?

I've been hearing some horror stories, but wondering if 12 weeks is plenty

You can either go for the Fast Track (one week,) or the Premium Service (one day.) You need to book an appointment for both of the above, booking these appointments is hard work and laborious. And be prepared to travel for your appointment. We are off to Durham in 2 weeks for our appointment, to replace our daughter’s lost passport.

4.5 weeks here for a child renewal

DrDreReturns · 05/07/2022 15:30

Took about three weeks to renew my kids passports. This was in late May / early June.

KarrotKake · 05/07/2022 15:38

You can't do a child's passport on the 1 day service.

Many passports are coming back well with the 10 weeks they are currently stating.
However, I know one friend still waiting from march, so it's not a guarantee. I think I'd get an appointment for the 1 week service.

Applied for DC renewal on 8/06/22 and received new passport 4/07/22.

pippinsleftleg · 05/07/2022 15:50

I have just had an email to say DDs has been approved and will be printed and sent - it took 2 weeks

Fizzgigg · 05/07/2022 15:52

Took about 6 weeks for us (arrived last week)

ChangedMyNamrButStillMe · 05/07/2022 15:54

@Iamacatslave neither of those services are available at the moment

Yodaisawally · 05/07/2022 15:54

Ours took 2 weeks in June

ShirleyBadass · 05/07/2022 15:56

I've been waiting for a child's renewal since March.

Get it done asap!

Mine took 11 weeks but it was very stressful as they never updated to say they’d received my old passport despite Royal Mail have proof of delivery. The website just said awaiting old passport for 10.5 weeks then one day said “passport received”, a couple of hours later it was “processing”, then immediately after that I got a text to say that it had been issued and to await a text with delivery slot from their delivery company. It arrived the next day, then the day after that I got a text to say it would be delivered between 2pm and 4pm in two days time 🙄

Iamacatslave · 05/07/2022 15:57

@ChangedMyNamrButStillMe those services are available at the moment. I booked my appointment yesterday, for the one week service.

LambLamb · 06/07/2022 21:38

I sent my child's off and received a message saying that it had been received on 3rd May...not heard anything since! I am going to call them tomorrow!

RhymesWithAntelope · 06/07/2022 21:40

2 weeks for ds

10 days for dh

Both v recent

ChangedMyNamrButStillMe · 07/07/2022 00:42

@Iamacatslave ah, that’s good that they’re doing them again. When I renewed mine a few weeks ago it simply wasn’t an option on the website. After trying multiple times I was offered an in person appointment for a few days later at the Belfast passport office but that was the closest I got. Surprisingly I didn’t take them up in the offer as I live in Devon and don’t have any ID other than my expired passport.

marcopront · 07/07/2022 01:07

Fast track in December.

Appointment Thursday
Passport arrived Saturday

Yes three days

Didn't get the old passport back for a month

caringcarer · 07/07/2022 01:35

Applied online end of May. Almost 1 month later message stated documents received. They were posted end of May. Still waiting for child passport renewal. DH got message last week to say don't ring or email but just wait as having to reply slows them down. We had not rang or emailed.

CombatBarbie · 07/07/2022 01:43

10 days it took for my DDs last month.

10 days it took for my DDs last month.

Whoops meant to add it was an online application and she had to be verified by her head teacher also.

I was shocked it turned around so quick.

surlycurly · 07/07/2022 01:50

I was 11 weeks waiting for my son's. Applied in Feb though. Also applied for two adult passports and they came back in seven weeks and 9 weeks respectively. We used the post office check and send service. Total waste of money and seemed to slow things down. I'd do it online.

MermaidSwimmer · 07/07/2022 06:18

My DDs took 13wks and lots of chasing it went to Liverpool office in March. It really sounds like iits utter luck of the draw!! I’ve now got to do our other DDs & dreading it. A simple renewal where both parents already hold full passports living at same address really shouldn’t take 13wks…. We were unlucky?

TheOrigRights · 07/07/2022 15:59

I sent my son's renewal (online) Tuesday 28th June and the new one has just arrived. 6 working days!
29th they reminded me to send the old one, which I'd already done.
5th it was approved.
6th it was printed.

LambLamb · 15/07/2022 08:12

Update here. Ours have arrived but they took the full 10 weeks. I did use the post office check and send, and followed up last week using their online query option. They responded the same day.

Thisismynewname123 · 16/07/2022 14:42

How long do they seem to take from approval to receiving the new passport? I sent off the forms for DD's renewal on Monday. I just got a text to say it's been approved. We haven't booked a summer holiday because she didn't have a passport, and now I'm hoping we might be able to get a last minute deal, but obviously won't book anything until we have the passport in our hands.
