Morning in or around St Malo

We (teenager, mother in law aged 80 but sprightly plus middle aged DH and me) are catching the ferry to St Malo on Saturday - with car - arriving at 8am. Our accommodation is an hour away and we don’t need to set off until 3pm.

Does anyone have any suggestions for things to do between 8 and 3? We will have a car full of luggage so am keen not to park anywhere risky.

Thanks in anticipation!

Dinard itself is lovely but parking in the town can be difficult. You could go to Cap Frehel for a stroll on the cliffs/see the lighthouse and do lunch at La Poissonnerie in St Cast de Guido. Or Dinan is very pretty.

The old town of Saint-Malo is a really charming walled town that was completely rebuilt after it was bombed to smithereens in WWII and you'd never know. It has nice bars, restaurants and some historical bits and pieces to wander around, if you are interested in that kind of thing. You can walk around the ramparts and there's a fort and a castle as well. There is a large car park just outside the city wall.

Dinard is beautiful and i'd happily while away a morning there. If it's not too hot there's a lovely walk along the coast on a decent footpath, I think we managed fine with a pushchair.

Enjoy! The coastline in that part of Brittany is one of my favourite parts of the world ❤️

There's a wonderful museum in St Malo with lots of history. You can climb to the top of the museum which is an old fortress, and enjoy the views, before lunching in one of the restaurants nearby.

Yes some lovely beaches. Though they pretty much disappear at high tide. St Malo town is lovely, you could wander around there for a few hours.

SORRY for the slow reply, I have been unwell (thankfully not Covid).

Thank you so much everyone for the helpful suggestions. I think we will stay in and around St Malo as it seems to have everything we need - beach, history, lunch. I didn’t realise it was worth a visit in its own right.
