Has anyone been? I’ve been to Warsaw and krakow and loved both.
looking at September, and probably going with a friend but if she ends up not coming, I’m happy to go myself.
would it be a good destination for a solo traveler?

We went January 2020, I had a weird idea in my head it would be a drab Eastern European city. But we loved it. Right on the river, loads of restaurants, Cafes and Bars. It was totally rebuilt after the war, but in the original style. Beautiful buildings, museums and a cobbled street full of shops selling nothing but Amber jewellery. River cruises, the massive Second World War museum. We'd go back tomorrow.

Thanks so much. Sounds wonderful! Accommodation seems plentiful and very reasonably priced.

Gdańsk is beautiful and I 100% recommended a visit. The WW2 museum is amazing, the food is delicious, so much history and just an amazing place to visit and if you go I would urge you to also visit Sopot ( you can get train there or even go on boat during high season) it’s a seaside resort with a beautiful wooden pier and lots of cafes and shops and not to mention a beautiful sandy beach - you can walk for miles . Gdańsk is part of tri cities - Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia and all are wonderful and have something to offer😍 you will not regret your visit

Another one saying Gdansk is wonderful. We went by train on a day trip from Warsaw and really want to return. Gdansk was built by the Dutch during their golden age (1600s), and is one of the most Dutch places, architecturally, we've ever seen (albeit rebuilt after WWII). I'd happily return as a solo traveller. It's a compact place and very friendly.

I went over a decade ago and keep meaning to go back. A family member in Poland recommended it and it is a wonderful city. We endeded up spending most of our time in Sopot (our apartment was on the edge on the of the city Sopot side and the tram went either into Gdansk or ended at the park edging the amazing Sopot beach). DC was just 2 then and we had a great week combining beach/city and lots of great food. The transport system makes it v easy to get around and it also has its own micro climate. I seem to remember it was popular with German and Scandinavian tourists. I think there is also a thermal resort very nearby. From memory the museum was shut on Mondays then. We went in July and had great beach weather. You could get a boat back from Sopot to Gdansk so we would do that sometimes after a beach day and then spend the evening in Gdansk wandering around and finding somewhere to eat.

We went in February this year, it was fabulous. Clear blue skies, fabulous ww2 museum, solidarity centre, amber shops, pierogi, brilliant international food scene. Great weekend trip. Oh and the flights were £15 return from Luton! Really recommend.

Lovely, and nice beaches, possibly getting a little chilly by September though.

If you have time plan for 1 day trip to the biggest medieval castle in Europe.
It will blow your mind how beautiful and well preserved it is

You can see the biggest nugget of Amber in the world which weights 68,2 kg, it is kept in the Museum of Amber
