Help for first single parent holiday

I am planning ahead for next summer, which will be the first holiday since my partner left me. It's for me and three kids, aged 16, 13 and 12. I have never done any sort of package holiday, we have always hired a car and a self catering place and driven round, but I don't want to drive abroad on my own.

I need to try and do this as cheaply as possible as the split has left me in a tough financial position, but I do want to take them abroad, and ideally by the coast. If self catering, I am looking for somewhere that's easy to get to from an airport and that has decent public transport to have some days out. If hotel I would like to do half board and be close enough to walk to a local town with some restaurants, cafes and shops. I don't have a country in mind - really that would come down to what is cheapest, and also somewhere that feels safe.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received as I don't know where to start looking!

Thanks

Cambrils Park on the Costa Dorada is just 15 mins taxi from Reus airport and a short stroll from the town centre. There’s another excellent campsite right next door called Sanguli Salou but I’m not sure how prices compare.

What about ferry to Spain? If you book in January there’s often discounts. Would mean you could then stay within an hour or so drive of the port?

I think a lot depends on where you can fly to cheaply from the airports near you.

DH and I went to Tarragona earlier in the year because flights are cheap to Barcelona Reus. You can get the train in to Barcelona or the train to salou (and the water park and theme park) but it’s also a small town with a lovely beach. We stayed self catering and don’t like resorts so it might not be for you.

I was going to say Cap Salou which is actually only a few miles from a previous posters suggestion of Cambril. Close to Port Aventura water and theme parks, easy travel distance by train to Barcelona and lovely beaches. We haven't been in a few years but Cap Salou is quieter than Salou (easy walking distance apart along beautiful seafront promenade) but we've stayed in both. H10 hotels are nice. We always got bus transfers from the airport.

Thinking of booking it for next year myself!
