Help Please Covid and Cruises

I am really hoping a wise Mumsnetter can help me. My elderly parents live in Australia. They are due to arrive in the UK in 12 days, haven't seen them for 3 years!

Now the problem. We are booked on a P&O cruise who require Covid cover on their travel insurance. They have just realised their insurance does not cover this, and they cannot change it as we depart in less than 21 days. They have British citizenship but reside in Australia.

I am really hoping someone has an idea what we can do or they will not be allowed on the cruise.

Praying

They will definitely need the cover and may get asked to show proof when boarding.

Can they not get cover over here if they are British citizens?

Maybe try someone like staysure

Nootkah · 30/06/2022 22:36

I suggest they buy an additional policy

Staysure insurance with covid cover is pretty cheap - about £12 for basic cover of I recall correctly.
i think if you don’t have covid cover they’ll probably charge you for it at the port so it’s not a deal breaker. Have a fab trip

If they do not live in the UK they can not take out a UK insurance policy. It is one of the first questions when buying insurance. Citizenship doesn't come in to it, you must reside in the UK.

They may need to buy another policy in Aus before they travel. They will certainly need covid cover. Just returned from a cruise (not P&O) and many people came down with covid and got confined to cabins.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yes that is the trouble, they are not UK residents and Australian insurers are saying any changes to their policy must be made 21 days before departure. Will look into them taking out additional cover in Australia. Fingers crossed will update a bit later today. Thank you again.

For anyone else in the same situation we managed it through IMG.
