Canada - eta and arrivecan

Hi all,
Has anyone been to Canada recently?
I'm flying to Montreal from Paris with my daughter in a few weeks. We have British passports.
I knew that I had to fill in the arrivecan thing 72 hours before the flight but I see an 'eta' is also required? Am I understanding this correctly?
Thanks!

Yes, I’m going on holiday to Canada in two weeks time and you do need an Eta. ( well you do flying from the UK) It’s easy enough to apply for online.

The ETA is your visa

parrotonthesofa · 27/06/2022 18:02

Ok thanks and then you do the arrivecan as well?

Yes, you do.

You should only use the official Canadian government website for the ETA as there are many sites who will charge more than necessary.

Ok great, thank you!

Another question:
I've applied for the eta and got an email saying it's approved with my eta number in. Is this all that is required for that?

Also do you have to complete arrivecan no less than 72 hours before departure or within the 72 hours before departure??

yeah its linked to your passport so you wont need to do anything else apart from the arrivecan app and your good to go
you show the QR code in the app at the border control along with your passports and they ask the usual why are you here questions then let you in
you can fill 1 arrivecan for all people going rather than each person having the app i think - i know mine gave me the option of adding other people so assume this is the case

Ok thank you and you cannot fill it in more than 72 hours before arrival right?
It says you have to fill it in 'within 72 hours of arrival' and i am struggling a bit to understand what they mean by within. Does that mean not before 72 hours prior?
I know it sounds crazy that I don't get it! I am British but haven't lived in the uk for years.

You can't fill the arrivecan in before 72 hours before your flight to Canada. Even if you look at it, it won't allow you to fill it in until the correct timings. So about a day and half before you travel.

The ETA is the visa, I think it lasts about 3 years, cost around £7

Thanks so much!

@parrotonthesofa We checked in for our trip to Canada this morning and they asked to see our ArriveCan . So have it handy. I thought we would only need it on arrival in Canada.
