Looking at Portugal for next year. Ideally 4 or 5* all inclusive. Any recommendations. Older couple no kids. Like nice beach and good food. Would like to be able to get out and about. Tia x

Vilamoura? Lovely marina, good beaches, good for access to other places if you want eg Albufeira (if you have transport). We’re staying at the Tivoli for the first time (but have been to Vilamoura before in a self catered villa), so can’t comment on the hotel just yet.

Another vote for Vilamoura. I can highly recommend the Dom Pedro Marina Hotel. I think you can't go wrong with any of the 4 star hotels around the Marina.

There's a Facebook group called Albuferia Holiday Goers that's fab. It will give you ideas for hotels, restaurants and day trips etc.

Vilamoura is not really Portuguese - it was created about 70 years ago out of the marsh land, and made into a golf course and resort - it lacks all the traditional appeal of some of the other places in the Algarve. Ferragudo, Carvoeiro, for example, or further west to Lagos or Luz. Porches has the wonderful Vila Vita resort which is fabulous, Vale D'Oliveiras is a little further from the beach but equally lovely. Alba Resort in Albandaiera (Carvoeiro). Tivoli in Carvoeiro has just been renovated and is spectacular.

If you would like any info just shout - I am a real estate agent in Ferragudo, and happy to offer any advice needed.

Oh - Estrela da Luz in Praia da Luz is also a nice choice. Plenty of lovely restaurants, cafes and bars, a beautiful beach, not too steep a hill!

Yeah it’s on the huge hill I call heart attack Brae 😂 however I don’t venture up it as I’m not really into walking about lol

Not sure about all inclusive as it's not something we go for but I thought Tavira was lovely. It's a less touristy place with an old town/new town, a railway station and a taxi boat to a delightful beach. Not far from Faro either.

We stayed in an adult only hotel called Falesia it was lovely.

Alberfueria is nice for a day trip I found villamoura boring and full of posers

Alcemeg · 30/06/2022 20:10

Sesimbra is lovely, less than an hour's drive south from Lisbon. Tranquil sea, the Arrabida natural park, plenty of fresh seafood, unpretentious, not a British colony like the Algarve.
