13 month old - Long Haul Flight - Westjet - Bassinet?

Hi all,

Taking our 13 month old to see some family over in Canada for the first time. As it stands the plan is for him to be on the lap. Does anyone have any tips?

Also we were considering paying extra for bassinet seats but westjet states they must be under 2, no bigger than 25lbs and not able to sit upright... He's been able to sit upright since around 6 months and I'm sure is around that weight and longer than height! I'm guessing also they are quite strict on this?

He’s too big for a bassinet. They are tiny and only designed for small babies. They are not much bigger than Moses baskets. For safety, once they can pull themselves up they can’t use them in case the parents fall asleep.

Your options are putting him on your lap or paying for a seat and bringing a car seat with you to strap into the aircraft seat.

He cannot use a bassinet. They are mainly for newborns and or very young babies.

If finances allow I would pay for him to have his own seat.

It could be far more trouble than it is worth to carry a car seat through the airport and onto the aircraft.

Agree, don’t bother with the bassinet. Mine were small babies and way too big for the bassinet by about 9 months.

Mine had a bassinet at 13 months, but for the return they gave me a seatbelt to attach to mine when he was on my lap.
