Kefalonia in October

Hi all, just wondering how Kefalonia is in Oct! I've read less warm than Crete (love Crete but been there a good number of times!) but decent enough?!
Any recommendations for things to do (couple no kids). I'm thinking we'll head to Ithaca for a couple days too.
Thank you ☺️

id guess it is finished for the season by the end of September, the Ionian islands get a lot of rain towards mid-end September. I’ve been late September and had quite a lot of rain and cloudy days. It is very green and beautiful though.
have you actually found any accommodation at that time ?
As it’s a ‘proper’ working and populated island with residents all year round I’d guess you’d find somewhere to stay in argostoli the capital. But I imagine the resorts would be closing.
have you considered Rhodes, that’s a good bet for weather through October .
would be good to hear if you found anywhere

found this OP pretty old but should help

We have been twice to Argostoli the capital
Its quiet in the summer so I would imagine its even quieter out of season. Check the weather history as we went to Corfu one September and it rained for a week!
Personally whilst is a really nice place I found Rhodes to offer more but I like the old town so perhaps its that that draws me?

We had a shock when travelling to Kefalonia early in the season. The buses hadn't even started running! I think it was May. So we had to hire a car which we'd hoped to avoid.

userxx · 11/08/2022 22:44

When does the season kick in ?

MissAtomicBomb1 · 11/08/2022 22:46

Yes the weather is unsettled between end of sept until the end of May. I would avoid for this reason as there isn't anything to do if it rains. It is beautiful in the summer months though.

TwoMonthsOff · 11/08/2022 22:59

@userxx
June-September
I have been in May though, was fine and the sea temperature was ‘refreshing’

userxx · 12/08/2022 06:35

@TwoMonthsOff Thanks for that, I've booked Kos for mid may next year, hopefully it will be warm without rain!

TwoMonthsOff · 12/08/2022 18:17

@userxx
Kos is very much more South & East than Kefalonia - Part of the Dodecanese so will be much warmer and drier in May, It will be perfect 😎have a fantastic time

Brilliant!! You've put my mind at rest, I was worried it might be a bit cool, as long as it's warm I'm happy 👍

moveblues · 13/08/2022 18:21

Thanks all! We are going in late Sept now ☺️

We went to Kef from September 23rd to about the 5th October, first week was good and second week was very rainy and stormy. The whole island lost power! On the upside the storms were amazing to watch...

There is a Facebook page if you are on Facebook called Best of Kefalonia, locals and regular tourists on there giving loads of info. We went in April as my mum lives near Agia Efimia. Highly recommend Melissani lake and Drogorati Caves. We also went on a boat trip from Poros to see a shipwreck and blue caves. Went on a donkey trek too, kids rode and we led the donkey, this was near Sami. There is also a bakery in Agia Efimia that still uses the old wood fired oven for baking, the owner is more than happy to take you to see it. Have a wonderful holiday and feel free to message me if you are looking for more info

@Poundie
lucky you and your mum, I love agia efimia it’s one of the prettiest places I have ever seen I stayed there once, it’s just so tranquil and those beautiful little snorkelling beaches that go all along the cost up to Sami 🐠🐠
Its where that famous taverna is isn’t it ? right at the top of the village,very rustic looking and with fantastic food and views. It has been there years it was the first place I ever ate Skordalia
