Passport not stamped on return to UK

Hello,

We have just returned from our holiday to France via Eurotunnel. Our passports were stamped on our way out, but we've just realised they have not been stamped on our way back in to England. I read this could cause us problems if we go abroad again because they don't know how much of our quota we spent in the EU. However I've also read some articles saying it's all online so doesn't matter - articles seems very mixed.

Has anyone experienced this and rectified it? I don't know whether to contact someone (who?) Or just hope for the best. We love to travel so will definitely go abroad again reasonably soon, most likely to the EU area.

I had this worry when leaving a non-EU country (for which I had a resident visa at the time) as the ink had run out and only the first of our 5 family passports showed the physical stamp. When I queried it with border control they laughed at me and said it's all recorded digitally anyway so the stamp is irrelevant. I can't think it will be an issue for UK citizen entering/leaving UK.

Sorry, this what I meant. As it's Eurotunnel the kiosks are about 10metres apart.

I had the opposite panic where they DID stamp my British passport even though I have residency in an EU country and I got panicked that they’d think I’d used up my EU time and not let me home, and they told me not to worry as it’s all recorded digitally. Perhaps keep your eurotunnel confirmation booking email if you’re really worried as proof you had something booked, but try not to worry.

It's not the UK entry/leaving that concerns me (as a UK passport holder I can leave and enter as much as I wish) but the entering/leaving of the EU (where we have a 90/180day limit). But I take your point about the digital record - I assumed there would be but I'm worried in case despite that they kick up a fuss about invalid/incorrect markings in our passports

Travelled the world lots of stamps in passports. You don’t get it stamped in return to the UK (assuming you have a British passport)

@Keladrythesaviour

Certainly at our local airport in France the prime method is electronic, as @yetanotherformerteacher mentioned.

The Frontier Police (PAF) quickly scan the passport when you go outbound ( as they've always done, even well prior to Brexit et.al) and that's when the details are captured.

I think Brits without a residents permit might get a stamp if it's a quiet day but I gather it's not universal so I wouldn't worry about any lack of ink.

This has bothered me too. I’m resident in France, so don’t get a stamp when entering or leaving, but I’ve flown from the UK to another EU country with an entry stamp. Returning to France, I don’t get an exit stamp as we’re within Schengen. Glad to hear it’s recorded digitally.

Keep a ticket stump/booking details. In the vetting for my job, I had to produce a copy of my stamped passport, all visa pages, and tickets for any missing stamps.

Keladrythesaviour · 25/06/2022 17:23

Thanks everyone - I will make sure to keep my Eurotunnel email. As that's all digital no ticket stubs etc.

Surely this information must all be captured electronically by passport control? We have travelled abroad numerous times since Brexit and I don't see the passport control people checking all my stamps and calculating how long we've been in Europe in total - imagine how long & slow the queues would be if they had to do that manually?
