Hi, I.5will be staying in Lewes this July for 3 weeks and I am wondering what are must sees within a 1.5hr drive, or even better- close by!

Will be there with my toddler, hubby, father and mother. Really enjoy independent shops, antique shops, national trust/historic properties, pretty villages, nice beaches, rivers where toddler can play, nice farm shops, pretty rural walks.

Any gems we shouldn't miss?!

I'd recommend Blackberry Farm - lovely spot, animals, outdoor and indoor play areas = heaven for young kids.
Another favourite is renting boats on the river from the Anchor Inn near Barcombe, very close to Lewes (drive down narrow country lanes).

If you go to Brighton for shops there are two distinct areas. The Lanes are a network of alleyways with antique shops, especially jewellery, restaurants, designer shops etc. The North Laine is a strip of streets with independent shops, cafes, pubs with a younger more alternative vibe, although it also has some antiquey shops (check out an indoor antique / vintage market called Snoopers Paradise).

For a slightly wilder walk, check out Ashdown Forest - of course the home of Pooh Bear and friends - it's more heathland than forest, gorgeous views, with many different car parks and walks. There is an AA Milne themed cafe and shop in the village of Hartfield.
