Ryanair car seat on board Britax or Diono

Hi all.

I have a very busy 17 month old who I know is definately not going to want to sit on the flight to our holiday. We are flying ryanair and they allow a car seat on board if I purchase an extra seat. The only car seats I have found that are within their specifications are discontinued so I have to buy second hand which I have found one Britax Eclipse and one Diono Radian 5.

Has anyone used either of these on a Ryanair flight? Could you please tell me your experience and which seat is better as I know the Diono Radian is meant to be quite heavy.

Thank you.

We didn't fly with it, but had the Eclipse when my mow 11yo was a toddler. We found it really easy to move between cars as itcwas quite light.

Would the CARES harness work?

Do not buy a second hand car seat because you do not know it’s history.

Carrying a car seat through the airport onto the aircraft is also likely to be more trouble than it’s worth.

Second hand car seats are dangerous unless they come from a 100% trustworthy source, don’t do it. I’d just have them on your lap for take off and landing as required and then into their own seat for the rest of their flight- if you do up the seatbelt it’s unlikely they’ll have the fine motor skills to undo at that age anyway. Take your own pillow for comfort then distract with snacks and ipad. I have an FAA approved car seat, used it once in flight and never again, LO was much more comfortable without it and we had to drag it all the way through the airport.

I've seen someone use the Joie Tilt and Joie Steadi on board planes before. You can just thread the plane belt through the normal belt path even though they aren't really approved with a lap belt.
