Hi there
My 18 year old DS has just had blood tests confirming his tonsilitis is actually Glandular Fever. He's been complaining of a sore throat since last week and it got really bad so managed to get an emergency appointment, penicillin and blood tests at the beginning of this week.
He's due to go on a week's holiday with a whole group of school mates in just under a month. The Dr said he can go but he's to rest in meantime, stay off alcohol, no contact sports etc .
I'm guessing we should contact his insurers and let them know? I'd obviously want him covered if he had any relapse or GF related medical issues out there (he's going to a Greek resort) I'll look at the small print but I shouldn't have to take out any extra cover should I? And if I do, would I be better off seeking specialist cover for this rather than just getting whatever is included/offered by his current insurers?
And I'm well aware that GF can have a very long recovery with relapses. I've read the horror stories and know people who have had it. I'm hoping he'll be one of the 'lucky' ones that have it 'mild'. I haven't heard many of those stories though, just the scary ones! Anyone with first hand-experience or just general advice Insurance-wise?
Thanks!
