Debit card in Canada

Hi,
I'm going to Vancouver next month and don't want to have too much cash with me. Can I use my debit card (Lloyds Bank) like I do in the UK or would it be better/cheaper to use a credit card?
I've always used cash abroad in the past but times have changed!

I'd do one of 3 things
- Get a Clarity Credit Card from Halifax, one of the top recommended for travel purchases
- Get an overseas cash card like Caxton, you load it before you go then use it as a debit card.
- Check the charges on your Lloyds account to see how bad they are, I think it is on the MSE bad list

I’m going to Calgary and will use my debit card as normal but will also have dollars on my Revolut card.

Look at the MSE link and get a Starling card. I think Chase currently has a waiting list as people want the savings account and Caxton does have some charges or possibly a worse exchange rate.
Starling is quick and easy to open as a second current account and offers the best possible exchange rate with no charges.
