Can anyone recommend a good car hire company in Dublin?

I'm searching car hire and getting overwhelmed by the different companies, prices, car types etc available along with terrifying excesses etc!

We are driving round Ireland for a week in October so need a car for 2vadults and 2 teenagers, boot space to fit at least 2 if not 3 suitcases, getting quotes from 600 to 1500+!

We usually holiday in UK in our own car and I'm looking at cheaper cars with unknown companies to well established companies that are extortionate. I don't want to find we get lumbered with a huge bill for things like scratches that were already in the car, in other words I want to avoid companies that are known for dodgy practice or whacking extra charges on.

If anyone can recommend a company I'd be really grateful.

Thanks.

Can you take your car on the ferry op? Honestly it would be cheaper.

I use Conn's Ireland who basically target the US market for Irish-Americans visiting Ireland. Their cars and physical offices are all actually Hertz but I found better prices with booking with Conn's if you want all insurance etc included. I had zero excesses, literally nothing to worry about. And ended up whizzing around Ireland in a Mini Cooper. I definitely recommend them!

Be aware that car hire prices are through the roof globally though. During Covid, most car hire places sold off a lot of their cars (to keep afloat - and because secondhand car prices were high due to new car production stopping) and now there's a shortage of cars to hire.

I've just booked a couple of cars for when I'm in Australia and prices are easily 2-3+ times higher than last time I was there.

I feel your pain I just tried to book a car from this Saturday to Sunday - 2days and quote was over 500 euros!!!
I did the same in england recently and it was £100!

Thanks everyone, I'll. Have a look at Conn's, thank you!
