Best package providers for trip to Peru

It's DH and my 60th birthdays next year [end if 2023], so we'd like to do a trip to Peru or India, Iceland...] ideally sometime next year. As we are a bit lazy, we'd like to do an organised trip with a reputable tour operator, to make sure we can see all the sights we'd like to.

Can anyone recommend any please? We are currently looking at exoticca and exodus.

Or is it actually easier to do it ourselves?

Do you want a company for Peru or India ?
There has been a recent thread about India.

Intrepid would be my pick (for any destination TBH), and a friend speaks very highly of Llama Travel for Peru specifically.

Whataretheodds · 02/09/2023 11:33

For anyone else reading, I went with Llama travel to Peru, and their local agent was Condor travel

Most of the holiday companies use a local agent. The price difference is the hotels. Plus companies like Audley and Steppes will tailor to your requirements. I would look at these two as they will have decent hotels. Exodus go more middle to average hotels.

I would not DIY to Peru as you need flights and transportation. It’s way less hassle to have someone meet you and take you to where you want to go.

India: you also need transportation but it depends where you go and what you want to see. They do have railways but the roads are pretty hard work, even as a passenger!! Do remember that India is a winter destination. Peru is great in our summer. Less rain.

We used Audley to go to Peru, albeit maybe 18 years ago.

It was amazing: a completely tailormade itinerary, and private guides all the way round.

For that type of trip I'd start with Trailfinders.

We travelled to Peru with Steppes and they were fantastic. Their country specialists really know what’s on offer and can tailor a trip to what you want. Paul Bird did our Peru trip last year.

We’ve just been with them again this year, and already booked next year.

I’d speak to them.

I’ve been to Peru with Exoticca - had a great time. They organise everything but there’s no tour leader so it’s more day trips in small changing groups than a coach tour. We like the style but wouldn’t be ideal if you aren’t a confident traveller.

Steppes and Audley don’t have tour leaders. They get you a guide for the trips out and a vehicle. Plus travel organisation from location to location be it rail or car. That way it’s a bespoke tour and you don’t join anyone else. Ultimate work this way too.
