Efteling and...

Hello,
We are looking at going to Holland in October half term (2 adults, 2 kids - 3 and 5), probably just for 4 nights but could do a little more. We definitely want to do Efteling and also visit the Train museum in Utrecht (plus look around Utrecht in general). I think we want to stay at least some of the time in the Efteling resort but not sure whether to do a couple of nights there and a couple elsewhere or to stay there for the duration but go and visit other places on a couple of the days.

Looking for any suggestions from those who have been? Also any other things that would be worth trying to do that are within easy distance of Utrecht or Efteling. (I did see some reviews of the Hansel and gretel pancake house which looked amazing but I think possibly a bit out of the way on such a short trip.)
I think we would be flying into Amsterdam so maybe suggestions for there as well, that we could maybe do on the first day?

Also in terms of prices - staying at Efteling for 4 nights is coming out around €1200-1300 - does that sound right? (It is doable but was hoping it would be slightly less. )
Thanks very much!

Amsterdam a canal trip would be good. I'm sure the kids would love it. There's also a zoo - great aquarium, and playground etc.
The Science Museum next to Central Station looks like a sinking ship (I think the canal cruises pass it) but they're a bit too young for going in.

One place that would be perfect for them is the miniature city of Madurodam.

Been to the Efteling. It's great but I wouldn't want to stay there more than 2 nights.

Have fun!

Beekse Bergen is a great place to stay with kids.

Not sure if you have a car but there is a place called Plaswijckpark about an hour away that is amazing. The indoor play area is easy to miss but worth the entry fee alone.

also, Rotterdam zoo is fantastic.

we love Efteling, hope you have an amazing time.

Delft is small, quaint to walk around
Leiden has a good natural history museum
Rotterdam zoo as PP mentioned
Kinderboederij (children's farm) - there are lots of these so Google kinderboederij + the closest city/town to see what is nearby
At that age my DCs loved travelling on the trams. I think the tram system links Den Haag to Rotterdam now.

Thanks everyone - those are really helpful tips.

@Iflyaway do you think it is worth staying at efteling for a couple of nights and then staying somewhere else or just staying in one place and travelling around?

Also, has anyone been to Utrecht? and can recommend things to see/nice places to eat?

Do you have children in your party? We've recently stayed at Duinrell and my kids loved it

I just reread your original post. Duinrell is great for little ones. Brilliant water park and theme park
