Hello

I have booked three nights in Sorrento the beginning of October.

Is the weather good at this time? Any recommendations on what to explore etc. any recommendations for restaurants.

Would love to do wine tasting.

Thanks in advance

We went to Sorrento at the end of October 2005. It was already like winter in the UK and like a British summer in Italy!

Can't remember any good places to visit, except Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. But Sorrento is very pretty!

We did ten nights early October years back and it was great weather not too boiling hot but warm enough for summer clothes/sunbathing etc.

We went to Pompeii, Herculaneum, an Amalfi coast tour for the day. We did Naples but meh one of the few cities I’ve never really liked. Sorry didn’t do a wine tasting so can’t help there. We also had chill days by the pool/ wandered round the town. Great holiday!

We went for a week during October half term a few years ago. It was warm ( 21-23ish) and sunny everyday. We went out in our usual summer holiday clothes only to find the locals were in puffer jackets and scarves. Had a great holiday and did lots of exploring.

We did Pompeii , Herculaneum , climbed Vesuvius ( all by train - so easy ) and took a bus to Amalfi. Previous visits we've taken a boat to Capri but the crossings weren't as regular in October.

Ahhh thanks so much all! Smile

We had a week in Sorrento in May, absolutely loved it.
I recommend the Due Golfi train tour ( half day excursion , need to book ) and also the Three Tenors concert in the beautiful Correale Museum ( Tuesdays and Saturdays ).
The Amalfi coast is stunning.
Enjoy !

We had our honeymoon in Sorrento, first 2 weeks of October. A couple of decades ago now but I remember it was gorgeous weather. Herculaneum, Pompeii, Vesuvius, Positano. All beautiful and all done by train rather than organised trips. Amalfi coastline is beautiful too. And easy to walk to the harbour and get boats to Ishcia and Capri. Ischia is less well known than Capri and much quieter (well, it was in the 90s!). We spent alternate days on day trips exploring and the rest lazying by the hotel pool and pottering around Sorrento, it was the perfect balance for us.

You'll have an amazing time, it's a beautiful part of Italy. And Sorrento centre is lovely, lots of cafes, ice cream, pizza. Great for people watching (and trying not to be killed by crazy moped drivers!) Actually, that reminds me, it rained a little a couple of times, we laughed that the moped drivers used one hand to steer and the other to hold an umbrella up.. all in a sleek Italian suit 😆.

It was just before the millennium when we went and Rome was covered in scaffolding, having a face-lift for the 21st century; otherwise we may have done a dual site holiday and stayed there for a few days too, it's not far.

Back in the day we were told to avoid Naples. As you got nearer on the train to Herculaneum , the graffiti and litter increased in the stations. I would avoid Naples.

Went first week of October a couple of years ago. Was around 20 and sunny most days, with one day of torrential rain all day. Evenings are cold though. Sorrento is beautiful.

We went in October and had beautiful weather although it was a bit cold swimming in the sea.
We did a day trip to Capri and that was excellent, you can also take the train to Vesuvius and Pompeii ( be sure to get off at the right stop not like us) or Herculaneum.

I went to Sorrento in October 2019 the weather was lovely. Warm enough for a summer dress. Lovely on Capri and pompeii the summer crowds had gone

AlvieMam · 14/06/2022 17:06

Thank you I am really looking forward to it. One to tick off the bucket list Smile

Please go to Storico 8, it's a little restaurant/cafe in the town, they bake their own focaccia and it's the most incredible bread I've ever eaten - and I've eaten in some amazing places. Get a sandwich, it will blow your mind.

Another one who honeymooned in Sorrento in October here!
Was very warm when we were there.
Can second Capri and Ischia.
We loved Naples! It's worth going to witness the driving alone! We too were warned against it (two decades ago) but we were just sensible, stuck to main roads etc.
Not sure if it's still around, but La Lanterna had the best pudding trolley ever! And you could see some Roman mosaic under a glass floor inside as well.
Enjoy!

Oh yes, go over to Ischia and hire a boat for the day to drive round the island.
Also loved Naples, worth a couple of nights IMO. We stayed at Rinnucini Relais which was a fabulous hotel.
