Venice in October or April

Toying with a trip to Venice (teenage kids), in either October half term this year or Easter holidays 2023. In terms of weather, which would you say is best?
We are talking approx October 24th or April 10th. My instinct is April being a more hopeful time than late October (and more time to save for what looks like being a jaw-droppingly expensive few days.
Many thanks

Probably April but both months can be unpredictable. Why not May Bank Holiday? Venice is an absolute joy.

Thanks, can't do May Bank Holiday. I am leaning towards April in any case at this stage for many reasons, I just wondered really if the weather was more likely to be better then.

I’d look at the weather averages for both months - temps, rainfall and sunshine hours and then decide. Maybe look at the hotel prices too!

Venice’s flood barrier has been operating successfully as of 2020, so acqua alta is hopefully a thing of the past.

I like October, it’s quieter than April and the weather can still be quite pleasant.

We went in October and had a great time. Lovely weather and no flooding.

We went in may and it was too hot. And already very busy. April will be just right weather wise. October is still pretty nice weather in Italy mostly but towards the end of October it does start to turn, not rainy really but colder, so just come prepared.

We went in October 2019, really enjoyed it and will definitely go back, was booked to go back May 2020 but Covid stopped that. The weather was good in October and crowds not too bad. Definitely no flooding and only 1 day rain.

We went in Oct 18 half term and it was gorgeous. We stayed for four nights, had couple of showers but for the majority of time it was sunny and very pleasant. Lovely to lunch al fresco too.

In that year it flooded badly few days after we had left but I see PP has pointed out they now have a flood barrier.
