Austin, Texas - ideas!
gwilt · 04/06/2022 17:08
We're going to Austin, Texas in August for 1 week.
Open to seeing, doing, eating or drinking anything.
All ideas gratefully received :)

The bats are incredible! Take lots of bug repellant, last time I was in Austin I was bitten a lot and they came up like golf balls. I'd be eating a lot and going to all the live music I could fit in - loved the music scene there

Great ideas so far - thanks! I'd heard about the bats but wasn't sure :)
Any particular food or drink ideas @CMOTDibbler ?
What's the best way to get to Dripping Springs and what would you recommend to do there@JonBonJovisHair ?

Visit the Umlauf Sculpture Garden.
Go swimming at the Barton Springs outdoor pool.
Hire a bike and cycle round the lake. Bear in mind it could be v hot at that time of year.
Have drinks in the bar at the Driskill hotel
Visit Allens Boots on South Congress for great selection of cowboy boots - South Congress great for mooching along with interesting shops
Loads of great cocktail bars eg Garage, Small Victory
Find somewhere doing traditional Texas BBQ.

Sorry, I wrote just outside of Texas. It’s in Texas, just outside of Austin, about 30 minutes drive. The scenery is amazing, Hamilton Pool, lots of alcohol at the wineries and breweries, vodka tasting, ranch tours, wildlife trails, live music.
August will be very hot! Enjoy. ☀️

There is a duck tour
state buildings
you don’t need a car- expensive to hire and exhorbitant to park. You can do a - day rental if you want to see more of Texas (San Antonio is great and the pearl)
uber is expensive- a journey that was $15 pre cv19 can be $35
yeti store

The Salt Lick in Driftwood is AMAZING for BBQ. Get there early to avoid queueing.
