Metal plates in arm

We're flying to Spain in a few weeks as a family and I wanted to ask if anyone has any experience of going through security with metal parts in their body?

My DS broke his arm badly before Christmas and now has two long metal plates in his arm. It's just occurred to me that he might be setting alarms off as he goes through security. I'm not sure what type of metal it is, but is he likely to have any problems?

My dad has a couple of pins and plates. The only place that ever picked up on them was the US, he just showed them the scars and they let him go straight away. It won’t be an issue.

@TheFlis12345 That's good to hear, his scars are pretty impressive, so should be convincing!

It depends a great deal on the airport.

The only place where my DH's 'metalwork' set off the detectors was at Schiphol. All other airports in Europe were OK.

When he showed the scar they were fine about it.

I have metalwork in my arm, knee and ankle. I sometimes have to step aside and they go over

I have ankle plates. They sometimes get picked up but usually they don't.

Posted too soon. They just go over me again with a hand held device. I think this happened most recently at the 02 arena

We’ve just returned from Spain (Barcelona) this weekend. I didn’t beep at all going out from Gatwick. I did on the way home and they didn’t give my arm so much as a glance - they scanned my bra area then swabbed my hands very quickly. It was no problem at all :)
