Havent flown for years - tell me what to expect

We had a dog for many years who died just as covid was coming along so only did UK holidays for nearly 20 years

So there are things that are new to me, like online check in and others that have forgotten about like medication?

If someone can help me not be the confused passenger at the airport who has done the wrong thing that would be great

The first thing I need to know is, do all your medications need to be unopened brand new ones or a half open packet? Can my OH put his pills in his weekly dispenser or do they have to be in their pill packets with his prescription on?

Secondly, online check in, I dont understand this, how on earth does this happen when I have hold baggage? Also printing off your own boarding ticket? I dont understand how this works

Also, can I take a handbag and a piece of cabin baggage or is it the same thing? Its Iberia express and the website is a bit confusing to me on this subject

Another thread running about the moment about airport delays talks about taking belts, coats and shoes off? I dont remember doing all this, is this what happens?

What about nail trimmers and tweezers, can they go into my toiletries?

We always print off boarding passes at home but you can use an app to have them on your phone. Medication depends on your destination. Most won't check boxes but some like Dubai have medication restrictions - take a copy of the repeat prescription. Baggage will vary by airline and amount you have purchased. EasyJet allow only one small bag per person , either handbag or small rucksack/bag, unless you upgrade. Oversized or extra bags are put in hold at ££ charge. Be prepared to put any hand-luggage liquids in a small clear bag at security. Phone/laptop/tablet , coat, belt, shoes all go through the scanner in a tray while you walk through.

If you are planning to travel more now you may want to buy your own seatbelt extender

They won’t let you use it if you are sitting in an exit row seat.

This is correct, I phoned them this morning as advised by this thread (thank you everyone) and indeed, they assume that because you're fat you're not going to be in a position to help people out of the plane in an emergency and it may have been my paranoid mind hearing her say it with some judgyness!!

However they have now changed the seat so Im stuck now in a bog standard seat, albeit on an aisle seat so at least I can swivel round and stick my legs out, being careful not to trip anyone up. Its the leg room really, they're so small these seats I hate it

I looked at some of the reviews for seatbelt extenders but often people have been told they're not allowed to use their own so Im not going to waste money on them

Agreed they won't let you use a seat belt extender in the exit row but that is regardless of whether it is your own or the airlines. If you need to use one then you can't sit in the exit row.

My suggestion was that if you do need to use one, you might want to buy your own.

Why ask? The point of having your own is to not have to ask about seat belt extenders. My friend who travels regularly has their own - they just use it unless it doesn't fit (which they say is almost never) and then they ask to borrow one.

Well Im only going by reviews and I dont think people have asked specifically but if seen by airline staff they say they dont meet the safety requirements etc, one persons got stuck in the seat belt of the seat and caused embarrassment.
