DH has a business trip to Warsaw in Sept and wonders if I'd like to join him. Anyone been? Can you recommend, or not? If I go it will just be the two of us and we like museums, parks, bars, restaurants, historic stuff, shopping and pottering.

We went to Warsaw for a weekend and quite enjoyed it. Stayed in a lovely 4 star hotel (which was actually quite inexpensive). It’s nice to wander round the old town and the museum of the Warsaw Rising was actually pretty good. We also visited the Royal Park which has what I think was the royal summer residence and a bunch of reasonably friendly peacocks. Considering how cheap flights are, I’d definitely say do it!

We went about 15 years ago, didn’t have a clue what to expect, had a ball. Gorgeous parks, interesting city centre, old town is fascinating, excellent food. We took Dd who was 10, she loved the fact they didn’t have children’s portions, so ate what we did. I’d go back.

I think a lot of Warsaw was rebuilt after ww2. DD has a friend there. Krakow is older snd worth a visit.

I went and didn’t love it, but I was there in winter and I found the cold horrible. In September I imagine you could enjoy the parks, plus the old town. I wouldn’t recommend it in a toss up between Warsaw and many other European cities to be honest, but since it’s a Warsaw or no trip choice here, I’d go and enjoy tasting the unusual Polish food, enjoy the Old Town etc, go to a museum or on a city walking tour while he’s working. Just don’t expect it to be your best trip ever, as I’ve been to many nicer places!

Oh yes the old town is not actually old - basically a replica of the original built by the soviets (the city was half destroyed in WW2)

Much of the materials were salvaged from what was left. I believe it was mostly funded by the public even though they had next to no money post-war. They did an incredible job.

I loved it there.

I've been to Warsaw twice, really enjoyed it both times. Lots of great food and lovely walks.

Okay, so sounds like it's worth a weekend (it will literally be Fri night - Sun night - we can't do any longer than that in term time). Thanks for the info!
